regarding what they witnessed of his will. If they accepted it, his will was valid. If they doubted whether [the witnesses] had altered the statement of the deceased, or had preferred whom they wished with the bequest, or had left out someone to whom the deceased had bequeathed nothing, the two who witness this [shall] swear after the prayer—which is the prayer of the Muslims—and they shall swear by Allah, "If you have doubts, [and] we do not purchase with it a price"—the verse.

His saying, the Exalted: "[and] we do not purchase with it a price"

[6945] ‘Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja‘far narrated to us from al-Rabi‘, from Abu al-‘Aliyah regarding His saying: "[and] we do not purchase with it a price," he says: We do not take a payment for it.

[6946] It was read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us from Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding His saying: "[and] we do not purchase with it a price," he said: We do not purchase with our oaths a price from the world, even if it were a near relative.

[6947] Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, he said: I heard ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying regarding His saying: "[and] we do not purchase with it a price," he said: We do not take a bribe for it.

His saying, the Exalted: "even if he is a near relative"

[6948] Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah narrated to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar narrated to me from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding Allah’s saying: "near relative," meaning his kinship.

His saying, the Exalted: "and we will not hide the testimony of Allah"

[6949] Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Harawi narrated to us, ‘Ali ibn ‘Asim narrated to us from Dawud, from ‘Amir regarding His saying: "and we will not hide the testimony of Allah," meaning: by cutting the alif and genitive case (khafd) of the name of Allah based on the oath (qasam).

[6950] Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, he said: I heard ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying regarding His saying: "and we will not hide the testimony of Allah," he said: Even if its owner is distant.

His saying, the Exalted: "Then if it is discovered"

[6951] Al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazid informed us by reading, Muhammad ibn Shu‘ayb narrated to us from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Ata’, from his father, regarding His saying: "Then if it is discovered," he said: Then if the heirs of the deceased find out."
