[6952] I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us from Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding His saying: "Then if it is discovered," he says: Then if it is found out—and the like of that was narrated from al-Suddi.

His saying, the Exalted: "that they have incurred sin"

[6953] Al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazid al-Bayruti informed us by reading, Muhammad ibn Shu‘ayb narrated to us, ‘Uthman ibn ‘Ata’ informed us from his father regarding His saying: "Then if it is discovered that they have incurred sin," he said: Then if the heirs of the deceased find out that they [the two witnesses] have incurred—through their oaths [and] their testimony—a sin from the wealth of the deceased.

[6954] I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us from Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding His saying: "Then if it is discovered that they have incurred sin," meaning: the two men of the Dariy family, he says: if they concealed the truth.

His saying, the Exalted: "then two others shall stand in their place"

[6955] Muhammad ibn Sa‘d al-‘Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle narrated to us, my father narrated to me from his father from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "then two others shall stand in their place," from the heirs of the deceased. And the like of that was narrated from Muqatil ibn Hayyan.

His saying, the Exalted: "from among those who have the better claim to them"

[6956] Abu Sa‘id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us from Abu ‘Ubaydah from Ishaq ibn Suwayd from Yahya ibn Ya‘mur that he read it: "aw al-awlayani" (or the two with the better claim), he said: They are the two heirs.

[6957] Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "from among those who have the better claim to them," he said: upon the two with the better claim; he says: from among those who testified against it.

His saying, the Exalted: "then they shall swear by Allah: 'Our testimony is truer than their testimony'"

[6958] Muhammad ibn Sa‘d al-‘Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to us, my paternal uncle narrated to us, my father narrated to me from his father from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "then they shall swear by Allah: 'Our testimony is truer than their testimony,'" he says: They shall swear by Allah, "Our companion did not bequeath this," or "They two are liars, and our testimony is truer than their testimony."
