Volume 4 · Page 183His saying (the Exalted): 'And fear Allah and listen'

Translation · EN

[6965] ...my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "That is more likely that they will testify truly, or else they fear that oaths might be taken after their oaths," he means: the heirs of the deceased, so they shall be entitled to his wealth by their oaths, then his inheritance shall be distributed as Allah has commanded, and the testimony of the disbelievers is nullified; and this is abrogated.

[6966] Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray‘ narrated to us, Sa‘id narrated to us from Qatada regarding: "or else they fear that oaths might be taken after their oaths," he says: i.e., they fear punishment.

His saying, the Exalted: "And fear Allah and listen"

[6967] I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf narrated to us from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "And fear Allah and listen," he means the judges. "And Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people."

His saying, the Exalted: "the defiantly disobedient"

[6968] Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh narrated to us, he said: I heard ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying regarding His saying: "And Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people," those who lie, who swear falsely.

His saying, the Exalted: "The Day when Allah will assemble the messengers"

[6969] My father narrated to us, Abu Tawba al-Rabi‘ ibn Nafi‘ narrated to us, Mu‘awiya ibn Salam narrated to us from his brother Zayd ibn Salam that he heard Abu Salam: Abu Usama al-Bahili narrated to me that a man said: "O Messenger of Allah, how many were the messengers?" He said: "Three hundred and fifteen."

His saying, the Exalted: "And He will say, 'What answer were you given?' They will say, 'We have no knowledge'"

[6970] Abu Zur‘a narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn ‘Umara narrated to us from Abu Rawq from al-Dahhak from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "The Day when Allah will assemble the messengers and He will say, 'What answer were you given?' They will say, 'We have no knowledge.'" He said: Then Allah will restore their intellects to them, and they will be the ones who ask. Allah says: "So We will surely question those to whom [a message] was sent, and We will surely question the messengers."

[6971] Abu Sa‘d al-Ashaj narrated to us, Ishaq ibn Sulayman Abu Yahya al-Razi narrated to us, he said: I heard ‘Anbasa, our judge, narrating from al-Husayn regarding: "The Day when Allah will assemble the messengers and He will say, 'What answer were you given?' They will say, 'We have no knowledge,'" he said: It is from the terror of that Day.
