He spoke to them in the cradle as a child, and He will speak to them as a man of mature age. A similar narration was reported from Qatadah and al-Rabi' ibn Anas.
[6986] Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, who said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said regarding "You speak to the people in the cradle and as a man of mature age": He informs them in this verse how he passes through his life like the way the children of Adam pass through their lives, young and old, except that Allah, Blessed and Exalted, distinguished him by speaking in the cradle as a sign of his prophethood and as a way of informing His servants of His power.
His saying, the Exalted: "As a man of mature age (kahlan)"
[First Aspect]
[6987] Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah narrated to us from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "And as a man of mature age," he said: He says, in the age of being a kahal (a man of mature age).
Second Aspect:
[6988] Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding his saying: "And as a man of mature age," he says: The kahal is the forbearing.
Third Aspect:
[6989] It was read to Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la, Ibn Wahb informed us, Ibn Lahi'ah reported to me from Yazid ibn Abi Habib, that the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted: "You speak to the people in the cradle and as a man of mature age," he said: The kahal is the peak of forbearance.
His saying, the Exalted: "And when I taught you the Book"

[6990] 'Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn al-Junayd narrated to us, who said: Abu Kurayb Muhammad ibn al-'Ala said: Yunus ibn Bukayr narrated to us from Matar ibn Maymun, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas who said: The Book is writing with the pen.
[6991] My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn Khalid al-Azraq narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb narrated to us, who said: I asked 'Umar ibn 'Ata' about the saying of Allah: "The Book and the Wisdom," he said: The Book is writing. A similar narration was reported from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir and Muqatil ibn Hayyan.
