The saying of the Exalted: "I did not say to them except what You commanded me to do."
7055 - My father mentioned from Mahmud ibn Mirdas, Yahya ibn Abi Rawq narrated to us, from his father, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord," he said: My Master and your Master.
The saying of the Exalted: "And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them."
7056 - Yunus ibn Habib narrated to us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, he said: I went along with Sufyan al-Thawri to al-Mughirah ibn al-Nu'man, so he dictated it to Sufyan while I was with him. When he stood up... from Sufyan, he narrated to us and said: I heard Sa'id ibn Jubayr narrating from Ibn 'Abbas who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood among us delivering an admonition and said: "O people, you will be gathered unto Allah barefoot, naked, and uncircumcised, 'As We began the first creation, We will repeat it.' And indeed, the first of the creatures to be gathered on the Day of Resurrection is Ibrahim. Beware, for men from my nation will be brought and taken to the left. I will say: 'My companions!' And it will be said: 'You do not know what they introduced after you.' So I will say as the righteous servant said: 'And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them' [to the end of the verse], until it was separated, and it will be said: 'These people did not cease to be renegades on their heels since you left them.'"
The saying of the Exalted: "And when You took me up, You were the Observer over them, and You are, over all things, Witness."
7057 - al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "You were the Observer over them," he said: The Protector.
The saying of the Exalted: "If You should punish them, indeed they are Your servants."
7058 - Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la narrated to us, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, 'Amr ibn al-Harith informed me that Bakr ibn Suwarah narrated to him, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Jubayr, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited the saying of 'Isa: "If You should punish them, indeed they are Your servants; and if You forgive them, indeed it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise." Then he raised his hands and said: "O Allah, my nation, my nation!" And he wept. So Allah the Almighty and Majestic said: "O Jibril, go to Muhammad—and your Lord is more knowing—and ask him what makes him weep." So Jibril came to him.
