Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And made the darkness and the light," he said: "He created the darkness before the light."
7085 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed me in what he wrote to me: Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And made the darkness and the light," he said: "The light is the light of the day."
His saying: "Then those who disbelieve equate [others] with their Lord."
7086 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Hafs ibn 'Umar narrated to us, 'Amir ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, from Ya'qub al-Qummi, from Ja'far, from Ibn Abza, from 'Ali, he said: A man from the Khawarij came to him and said to him: "'All praise is due to Allah, who created the heavens and the earth and made the darkness and the light; then those who disbelieve equate [others] with their Lord.' Is it not so?" He said: "Yes." Then he turned away from him, and 'Ali said to him: "Return! Return! That is, say: It was only revealed concerning the People of the Scripture, and they are the ones who equated [others] with their Lord," meaning the People of the Scripture.
7087 - My father narrated to us, Sa'id ibn 'Abd al-Hamid al-Muqri' narrated to us, Ya'qub narrated to us, from Ja'far, from Ibn Abza, the like of that, but he did not mention: "from 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him."
7088 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "Equate [others] with their Lord," he said: "They associate partners [with Him]." It was also narrated from al-Suddi the like of that.
7089 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed me in what he wrote to me: Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: "Then those who disbelieve equate [others] with their Lord," he said: "The deities that they worshipped, they equated them with Allah, yet He has no equal, nor any peer, nor are there deities with Him, nor did He take a companion or a child."
His saying: "Then He decreed a term."

7090 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Hisham narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Abu Husayn, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "Then He decreed a term," he said: "The term of the worldly life."
ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ، قَوْلَهُ: وَجَعَلَ الظُّلُمَاتِ وَالنُّورَ قال خَلَقَ الظُّلْمَةَ قَبْلَ النُّورِ.
٧٠٨٥ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُفَضَّلٍ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ، قَوْلَهُ: وَجَعَلَ الظُّلُمَاتِ وَالنُّورَ قَالَ: النُّورُ نُورُ النَّهَارِ.
قَوْلُهُ: ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ يَعْدِلُونَ
٧٠٨٦ - ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، ثنا عَامِرُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ الْقُمِّيِّ، عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبْزَى، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ: أَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْخَوَارِجِ فَقَالَ لَهُ: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ وَجَعَلَ الظُّلُمَاتِ وَالنُّورَ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ يَعْدِلُونَ. أَلَيْسَ كَذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَانْصَرَفَ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ:
ارْجِعْ ارْجِعْ، أَيْ قُلْ: إِنَّمَا أُنْزِلَتْ فِي أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَهُمُ الَّذِينَ عَدَلُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ، يَعْنِي أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ.
٧٠٨٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ المقري، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبْزَى، نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ.
٧٠٨٨ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: يَعْدِلُونَ قَالَ: يُشْرِكُونَ. وَرُوِيَ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ، نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
٧٠٨٩ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا أَصْبَغُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، فِي قَوْلِهِ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ يَعْدِلُونَ، قَالَ: الآلِهَةُ الَّتِي عَبَدُوهَا عَدَلُوهَا بِاللَّهِ، وَلَيْسَ لَهُ عِدْلٌ، وَلا نِدٌّ، وَلا مَعَهُ آلِهَةٌ وَلا اتَّخَذَ صَاحِبَةً وَلا وَلَدًا.
قَوْلُهُ: ثُمَّ قضى أجلا.

٧٠٩٠ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَبِي حُصَيْنٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ثُمَّ قَضَى أَجَلا قَالَ: أَجَلَ الدُّنْيَا.
