7120 - Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Amr narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) invited his people to Islam and spoke to them, and he was eloquent with them as far as reached me. Then Zam’ah ibn al-Aswad ibn al-Muttalib, al-Nadr ibn al-Harith ibn Kaladah, ‘Abdah ibn ‘Abd Yaghuth, Ubayy ibn Khalaf ibn Wahb, and al-‘As ibn Wa’il ibn Hisham—the one who says to him: "If only a angel were placed with you, O Muhammad, who would speak on your behalf and be seen with you"—said [this to him], and so Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed concerning this statement of theirs: "And they said, why has an angel not been sent down to him?" the verse.
His saying: "And they said, why has an angel not been sent down to him?"
7121 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa’ narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "Why has an angel not been sent down to him?" he said: In his own form.
His saying: "And if We had sent down an angel"
7122 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-‘Ala’ narrated to us, ‘Uthman ibn Sa’id narrated to us, Bishr ibn ‘Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "And if We had sent down an angel," he said: Even if an angel had come to them in his own form.
His saying: "And if We had sent down an angel, the matter would have been decided"

7123 - Abu Zur’ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr ibn ‘Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "The matter would have been decided," he says: We would have destroyed them.
The Second Aspect:
7124 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa’ narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "The matter would have been decided": The Hour would have been established. Something similar was narrated from ‘Ikrimah.

٧١٢٠ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، ثنا سَلَمَةُ قَالَ: قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ: وَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَوْمَهُ إِلَى الإِسْلامِ، وَكَلَّمَهُمْ فَأَبْلَغَ إِلَيْهِمْ فِيمَا بَلَغَنِي، فَقَالَ لَهُ زَمْعَةُ بْنُ الأَسْوَدِ بْنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، وَالنَّضْرُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ كَلَدَةَ، وَعبدة بْنُ عَبْدِ يَغُوثَ، وَأُبَيُّ بْنُ خَلَفِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ، وَالْعَاصُ بْنُ وَائِلِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ الَّذِي يَقُولُ لَهُ: لَوْ جُعِلَ مَعَكَ مَلَكٌ يَا مُحَمَّدُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْكَ وَيُرَى مَعَكَ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي ذَلِكَ مِنْ قَوْلِهِمْ: وَقَالُوا لَوْلا أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ ملك الْآيَةَ.
قَوْلُهُ: وَقَالُوا لَوْلا أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ مَلَكٌ
٧١٢١ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ «١»
قوله: لَوْلا أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ مَلَكٌ، قَالَ: فِي صُورَتِهِ.
قَوْلُهُ: وَلَوْ أَنْزَلْنَا مَلَكًا

لَقُضِيَ الأَمْرُ: لَقَامَتِ السَّاعَةُ. وَرُوِيَ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ.
