His saying: "Nay, but you call upon Him, and He removes that which you pray for if He wills."
7270 - Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la informed us by way of reading, Ibn Wahb told us, Ibn Lahi'ah informed me that Abu al-Zubayr informed him, from Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah, from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, that he said: "There is no one among the people who calls upon Allah with a supplication but that Allah gives him what he asks for, or He withholds from him the like of it in evil, as long as he does not pray for a sin or the severance of kinship."
His saying the Exalted: "And indeed, We have sent to nations before you, then We seized them with poverty and hardship that they might humble themselves."

7271 - Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Muhammad al-'Anqazi narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, from Murrah, from 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud regarding His saying: "with poverty (al-ba'sa')," he said: al-ba'sa' is poverty.
7272 - It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas, Abu al-'Aliyah, al-Hasan in one of his two statements, Murrah al-Hamdani, Sa'id ibn Jubayr, Mujahid, al-Dahhak, al-Rabi' ibn Anas, al-Suddi, and Muqatil ibn Hayyan similarly to that.

7273 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Ibn Numayr narrated to us, Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, our companions narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Mujahid, from 'Ubayd ibn 'Umayr regarding "al-ba'sa'," he said: It is misery (al-bu's).

7274 - al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bashshar narrated to us, Surur ibn al-Mughirah narrated to me, from 'Abbad ibn al-Mansur, from al-Hasan regarding "al-ba'sa'," he said: It is affliction (al-bala').

7275 - It was mentioned from al-Muttalib ibn Ziyad, from Salim al-Aghtas, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding "then We seized them with poverty (al-ba'sa')," he said: Fear of the sultan.

قَوْلُهُ: بَلْ إِيَّاهُ تَدْعُونَ فَيَكْشِفُ مَا تَدْعُونَ إِلَيْهِ إِنْ شَاءَ
٧٢٧٠ - أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى قِرَاءَةً، أنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ أَنَّ أَبَا الزُّبَيْرِ أَخْبَرَهُ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ:
مَا مِنَ النَّاسِ أَحَدٌ يَدْعُو بِدُعَاءٍ إِلا آتَاهُ اللَّهُ مَا سَأَلَ، وَكَفَّ عَنْهُ مِنَ السُّوءِ مِثْلَهُ، مَا لَمْ يَدْعُ بِإِثْمٍ أَوْ قَطِيعَةِ رَحِمٍ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَى أُمَمٍ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ فَأَخَذْنَاهُمْ بِالْبَأْسَاءِ والضراء لعلهم يتضرعون

٧٢٧١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَنْقَزِيُّ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ، عَنْ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ:
بِالْبَأْسَاءِ قَالَ: الْبَأْسَاءُ: الْفَقْرُ.
٧٢٧٢ - وَرُوِيَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، وَأَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ، وَالْحَسَنِ فِي أَحَدِ قَوْلَيْهِ، وَمَرَّةَ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ، وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، وَمُجَاهِدٍ، وَالضَّحَّاكِ، وَالرَّبِيعِ بن أنس والسدي ومقاتل ابن حَيَّانَ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
وَالْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:
٧٢٧٣ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، ثنا أَصْحَابُنَا، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عمير بالبأساء قَالَ: الْبُؤْسُ.
وَالْوَجْهُ الثَّالِثُ:
٧٢٧٤ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنِي سُرُورُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ المنصور، عن الحسن بالبأساء قَالَ الْبَلاءُ.
وَالْوَجْهُ الرَّابِعُ:
٧٢٧٥ - ذُكِرَ، عَنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ الأغطس عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فَأَخَذْنَاهُمْ بِالْبَأْسَاءِ، قَالَ: خَوْفًا مِنَ السلطان.
