al-'Anqazi narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, from Murrah, from 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud regarding His saying: "and hardship (al-darra')," he said: al-darra' is illness.
7277 - It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas, Abu al-'Aliyah, Murrah al-Hamdani, Abu Malik, al-Dahhak, al-Hasan, Mujahid, al-Suddi, al-Rabi' ibn Anas, Qatadah, and Muqatil ibn Hayyan similarly to that.

7278 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "and hardship (al-darra')," meaning: at the time of tribulation and severity.

7279 - al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bashshar narrated to us, Surur ibn al-Mughirah narrated to me, from 'Abbad ibn al-Mansur, from al-Hasan regarding "and hardship (al-darra')," he said: These are diseases, hunger, and the like.
His saying: "that they might humble themselves (l'allahum yatadarra'un)."
7280 - Musa ibn Abi Musa al-Kufi narrated to us, Harun ibn Hatim narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik regarding His saying: "that they might (l'allahum)," meaning: in order that.
His saying: "Then why, when Our punishment came to them, did they not humble themselves?" the verse.
7281 - Musa ibn Harun al-Tusi informed us in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Marwudhi narrated to us, Shayban ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Qatadah: regarding His saying: "Then why, when Our punishment came to them, did they not humble themselves? But their hearts became hardened," he said: Allah reproached them for the hardness [of heart] at that time, and for not becoming submissive to the punishment of Allah. May Allah bless you, do not expose yourselves to the punishment of Allah through hardness of heart, for He reproached a people before you for that.
