The Second Aspect:

7308 - My father narrated to us, Abu Ghassan Malik ibn Isma'il narrated to us, Qays narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Lord of the worlds," he said: The jinn and mankind. It was narrated from 'Ali, via a chain of transmission that is not relied upon, the like of it. It was also narrated from Mujahid the like of it.

His saying: "Say, have you considered: if Allah should take away your hearing and your sight."

7309 - Musa ibn Abi Musa al-Ansari narrated to us, Harun ibn Hatim narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik regarding His saying: "And He has sealed [their hearing and hearts]," meaning: He has stamped.

[His saying: Then they turn away.]

[The First Aspect]

7310 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih the scribe of al-Layth narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "They turn away," meaning: They deviate.

The Second Aspect:

7311 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "Then they turn away," he said: They turn away [in aversion]. It was narrated from Abu Malik and Qatadah something similar to that.

The Third Aspect:

7312 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "Then they turn away," he said: They turn away [from the truth].

His saying: "Say, have you considered: if the punishment of Allah should come to you suddenly."

7313 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid(1) regarding His saying: "Say, have you considered: if the punishment of Allah should come to you suddenly," he said: Unexpectedly, while you are secure.

His saying: "Or openly."

7314 - And by the same chain, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "Suddenly or openly," he said: "Openly," meaning: While they are looking on.
