His saying: "Until when death comes to one of you, Our messengers take him."
7385 - Yunus ibn Habib narrated to us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from al-Minhal ibn 'Amr, from Zadhan, from al-Bara'. Abu Dawud said: And 'Amr ibn Thabit narrated to us, he heard it from al-Minhal ibn 'Amr, from Zadhan, from al-Bara'. The hadith of Abu 'Awanah is the more complete of the two. Al-Bara' said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, for the funeral of a man from the Ansar. We reached the grave, and it had not yet been dug [into the side]. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, sat down and we sat around him, as if birds were on our heads. He began to raise his gaze and look at the sky, then lower his gaze and look at the earth. Then he said: "Seek refuge with Allah," [repeating] it several times. Then he said: "When the believing servant is in the final stages of the Hereafter and the beginning of the worldly departure, an angel comes to him and sits by his head, saying: 'Come out, O good soul, to the forgiveness of Allah and His pleasure.' His soul emerges, flowing as a drop flows from a water skin." 'Amr said in his hadith, and Abu 'Awanah did not say it: "And if you see otherwise: Angels descend from Paradise, with white faces as if their faces were the sun, carrying shrouds from the shrouds of Paradise and embalming substance (hanut) from its embalming substance. They sit away from him as far as the eye can see. When the angel seizes it, they do not leave it in his hand for the blinking of an eye. That is the meaning of His saying: 'Our messengers take him, and they do not neglect [their duties].'"
7386 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Mansur, from Ibrahim regarding "Our messengers take him," he said: The messengers take the souls, then the Angel of Death takes them away.
7387 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Khalid and Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from al-Hasan ibn 'Ubayd Allah, from Ibrahim, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding "Our messengers take him," he said: The assistants of the Angel of Death.
His saying: "And they do not neglect [their duties]."
7388 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And they do not neglect [their duties]," he says: They do not waste them.
It was also narrated from al-Suddi the like of that.
