His saying: "Then they are returned to Allah, their True Master."
7389 - It was mentioned from Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Numayr, Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Isma'il informed us, from Qays, who said: 'Uthman ibn 'Affan entered upon 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud and said: "How do you find yourself?"
He replied: "Returned to my True Master." He [Uthman] said: "May you be good, or made good"—Yazid was uncertain [which word was used].
7390 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Sa'id al-Asbahani narrated to us, Abu Bakr ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us, who said: I entered upon 'Asim before he died, and he was reciting: "Then they are returned to Allah, their True Master. Verily, to Him is the judgment, and He is the swiftest of reckoners." And what I know of him is that he was rational.
His saying: "Say, 'Who rescues you from the darkness of the land and the sea?'"
7391 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Say, 'Who rescues you from the darkness of the land and the sea?'" He says: Who rescues you from the distress of the land and the sea.
His saying: "You call upon Him humbly."
7392 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: "humbly," meaning: submissively.
His saying: "And secretly."
7393 - And through the same chain, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "and secretly," meaning: in humility and stillness regarding your needs of worldly and Hereafter affairs.
His saying: "If He rescues us from this."
7394 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Say, 'Who rescues you from the darkness of the land and the sea? You call upon Him humbly and secretly,'" he says: When a man loses his way, he calls upon Allah: "If He rescues us from this, we will surely be among the grateful."
7395 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ziyad narrated to us, Sayyar narrated to us, Ja'far narrated to us, Abu Hamzah narrated to us, from Abu al-'Afif—who was one of the companions of Mu'adh ibn Jabal—he said: The people of Paradise will enter Paradise in four categories: the God-fearing (al-muttaqin), then the grateful (al-shakirin), then the fearful (al-kha'ifin), then the companions of the right hand. He said: I asked, "Why are they called the grateful?" He replied: "They thanked Allah during times of prosperity, and they prepared themselves for patience during times of trial, so they are in the footsteps of the God-fearing."

٧٣٨٩ - ذُكِرَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ قَالَ: دَخَلَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، فَقَالَ: كَيْفَ تَجِدُكَ؟
قَالَ: مَرْدُودًا إِلَى مَوْلايَ الْحَقِّ. فَقَالَ: طِبْتَ أَوْ طُيِّبْتَ، شَكَّ يَزِيدُ.
٧٣٩٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَاصِمٍ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَمُوتَ وَهُوَ يَقْرَأُ: ثُمَّ رُدُّوا إِلَى اللَّهِ مَوْلاهُمُ الْحَقِّ أَلَا لَهُ الحكم وهو أسرع الحاسبين، وأما أَعْلَمُهُ يَعْقِلُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: قُلْ مَنْ يُنَجِّيكُمْ مِنْ ظُلُمَاتِ الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ
٧٣٩١ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَخْبَرَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ، ثنا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلَهُ: قُلْ مَنْ يُنَجِّيكُمْ مِنْ ظُلُمَاتِ الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ يَقُولُ: مَنْ يُنَجِّيكُمْ مِنْ كَرْبِ الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ.
قَوْلُهُ: تَدْعُونَهُ تَضَرُّعًا.
٧٣٩٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ، قَوْلَهُ: تَضَرُّعًا يَعْنِي: مُسْتَكِينًا.
قَوْلُهُ: وَخُفْيَةً.
٧٣٩٣ - وَبِهِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَوْلَهُ: وَخُفْيَةً يَعْنِي: فِي خَفْضٍ وَسُكُونٍ فِي حَاجَاتِكُمْ مِنْ أَمْرِ الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ.
قَوْلُهُ: لَئِنْ أَنْجَانَا مِنْ هَذِهِ.
٧٣٩٤ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، حَدَّثَنِي عَمِّي، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلَهُ: قُلْ مَنْ يُنَجِّيكُمْ مِنْ ظُلُمَاتِ الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ تَدْعُونَهُ تَضَرُّعًا وَخُفْيَةً يَقُولُ: إِذَا ضَلَّ الرَّجُلُ الطَّرِيقَ دَعَا اللَّهَ: لَئِنْ أَنْجَانَا مِنْ هَذِهِ لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الشَّاكِرِينَ.
٧٣٩٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، ثنا سَيَّارٌ، ثنا جَعْفَرٌ، ثنا أَبُو حَمْزَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَفِيفِ، وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَ: يَدْخُلُ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ الْجَنَّةَ عَلَى
