His saying: "For every prophecy there is a settlement, and you will come to know." What was in the world, you will see it, and what was in the Hereafter, it will appear to you.
His saying, the Almighty and Exalted: "And when you see those who engage in (offensive) discourse concerning Our verses."
[The First Aspect]
7426 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And when you see those who engage in (offensive) discourse concerning Our verses," and similar instances in the Qur'an. He said: Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, commanded the believers to hold to the community and forbade them from disagreement and separation, and informed them that those who were before them only perished due to argumentation and disputes in religion.
7427 - Usayd ibn 'Asim narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn Hafs narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik: "And when you see those who engage in (offensive) discourse concerning Our verses." He said: Engagement (al-khawd) is denial. Similar to this was narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr.
7428 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, Mu'adh ibn Mu'adh narrated to us, Ibn 'Awn narrated to us, from Muhammad regarding this verse: "And when you see those who engage in (offensive) discourse concerning Our verses," he said: He used to believe that this verse was revealed regarding the people of desires (innovators).
The Second Aspect:
7429 - Al-Ashaj narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah narrated to us, from Isra'il, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik and Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "And when you see those who engage in (offensive) discourse concerning Our verses, then turn away from them until they engage in a different conversation." He said: Meaning the polytheists.
7430 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And when you see those who engage in (offensive) discourse concerning Our verses, then turn away from them." He said: When the polytheists would sit with the believers, they would speak ill of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and the Qur'an, insulting him and mocking him. So Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, commanded them not to sit with them until they engaged in a different conversation.
The Third Aspect:
7431 - Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, Rawh ibn 'Ubadah narrated to us, al-'Awwam narrated to us, from Ibrahim al-Taymi, who said: I heard Abu Wa'il saying: A man might sit in a gathering and tell his companions something to make the people laugh, and thereby incur the wrath of Allah. He said: So I met al-Nakha'i and mentioned that to him, and he said: He spoke the truth, and indeed that is in the Book of Allah. Then he recited this verse: "And when you see those who engage in (offensive) discourse concerning Our verses, then turn away from them..." to the end of the verse.
