The sixth interpretation:

7462 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Muslim ibn Salih narrated to us, al-Qasim ibn al-Fadl narrated to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak ibn Muzahim regarding His saying: "given up to destruction for what they have earned," he said: They are roasted.

His saying, the Exalted: "for what they have earned."

7463 - Abu Zur'a narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umara informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "for what they have earned," he says: for what they have done.

His saying: "For them will be a drink of scalding water."

7464 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Nu'aym narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Mansur, from Ibrahim, and Abu Razin regarding: "scalding water," they both said: That which flows from their pus.

His saying: "and a painful punishment."

7465 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliya regarding His saying: "and a painful punishment," he said: The painful is that which causes pain.

And it was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas, Sa'id ibn Jubayr, al-Dahhak, Qatada, Abu Malik, Abu 'Imran al-Jawni, and Muqatil ibn Hayyan the same as that.

His saying, the Exalted: "Say, 'Do we call upon other than Allah that which neither benefits us nor harms us?'"

7466 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "Say, 'Do we call upon other than Allah that which neither benefits us nor harms us?'" he said: The polytheists said to the believers: Follow our path and abandon the religion of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

Allah the Exalted said: "Say, 'Do we call upon other than Allah that which neither benefits us nor harms us?'" regarding these idols.

7467 - Hajjaj narrated to us, Shababa narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "that which neither benefits us nor harms us," he said: The idols.

His saying: "And we are turned back on our heels after Allah has guided us."

7468 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us,
