Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And we are turned back on our heels after Allah has guided us," he said: We are turned back on our heels into disbelief after Allah has guided us, so our example becomes like the one whom the devils have led astray in the land.
His saying: "Like one whom the devils have led astray in the land."
7469 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih the scribe of al-Layth narrated to us, Mu'awiya ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talha, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Like one whom the devils have led astray in the land," he says: They are the ghuls (demons) who call him by his name and the name of his father, so he follows them, thinking that he is upon something, but he wakes up having been cast into destruction, or perhaps they eat him, or cast him into a pathless wasteland where he perishes from thirst. This is the likeness of the one who answers the idols that are worshipped besides Allah the Almighty.
7470 - Abu Bakr ibn Abi Musa narrated to us, Harun ibn Hatim narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik regarding His saying: "the devils," he means: Iblis and his offspring.
His saying: "confounded."
7471 - Hajjaj ibn Hamza narrated to us, Shababa narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "in the land, confounded," a confounded man whose companions call him to the path; that is the likeness of one who goes astray after having been guided.
7472 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman al-Awdi informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "in the land, confounded," he says: Your likeness, if you disbelieve after having believed, is like a man who was with a people on the road, then he lost the road, and the devils confounded him and led him astray in the land, while his companions were on the road and began calling him toward them, saying: "Come to us, for we are on the road," but he refused to come to them. That is the likeness of the one who follows you after the knowledge of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, who calls to the road, and the road is Islam.
His saying, the Exalted: "who has companions calling him to guidance, 'Come to us.'"
7473 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih the scribe of al-Layth narrated to us, Mu'awiya ibn Salih narrated to me, from
