His saying, the Exalted: "And that was Our argument which We gave to Abraham against his people."

7549 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' regarding His saying: "And that was Our argument which We gave to Abraham against his people." He said: That refers to the dispute that took place between him and his people, and the dispute that took place between him and the tyrant who is called Nimrod.

His saying: "We raise in degrees whom We will."

7550 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Ghimr narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Qasim narrated to us, saying: Malik said: I heard Zayd ibn Aslam saying regarding this verse: "We raise in degrees whom We will": It is knowledge, by which Allah raises whomever He wills in the world.

His saying, the Exalted: "Indeed, your Lord is Wise, Knowing."

7551 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam al-'Asqalani narrated to us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah: "Wise," he says: Wise in His command.

7552 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan Zunayj informed us, Salamah narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "Wise" in His excuse and His argument to His servants.

7553 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Zunayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq: "Knowing," that is: Knowing of what they conceal.

His saying: "And We gave to him Isaac and Jacob; all [of them] We guided."

7554 - Sahl ibn Bahr al-'Askari narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salih narrated to us, 'Ali ibn 'Abis narrated to us, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Ata' al-Makki, from Abu Harb ibn Abi al-Aswad, who said: Al-Hajjaj sent for Yahya ibn Ya'mur and said: "It has reached me that you claim that al-Hasan and al-Husayn are from the descendants of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace; you find it in the Book of Allah, yet I have read it from its beginning to its end and have not found it." He said: "Do you not read Surah al-An'am: 'And from his descendants, David and Solomon and Job,' until he reached: 'And John and Jesus'?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Is not Jesus from the descendants of Abraham, even though he has no father?" He said: "You have spoken the truth."
