His saying: "And the angels [are] stretching out their hands"
7632 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr narrated to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "And the angels [are] stretching out their hands," he said: The Angel of Death.
7633 - Abu Badr al-Ghubari informed us in what he wrote to me, Jabir ibn Ishaq narrated to us, Abu Ma'shar narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Qays, he said: Indeed, the Angel of Death has helpers from among the angels. Then he recited this verse: "And if you could see when the wrongdoers are in the agonies of death."
7634 - Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani informed us, Isma'il ibn 'Abd al-Karim narrated to us, 'Abd al-Samad narrated to us, he said: I heard Wahb saying: Indeed, the angels who are paired with people are those who take their souls; so they take their appointed lifespans for them, and when it is such and such a day, they take his soul. Then he recited: "And if you could see when the wrongdoers are in the agonies of death, and the angels [are] stretching out their hands, 'Discharge your souls!'" to the end of the verse.
It was said to Wahb: Did Allah not say: "Say, 'The angel of death who has been entrusted with you will take you'"? He said: Yes, indeed, when the angels take a soul, they hand it over to the Angel of Death, and he is like the 'aqib, meaning the tax collector to whom those beneath him deliver [what they collect].
His saying: "stretching out their hands, 'Discharge your souls!'"
7635 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: Regarding his saying: "And the angels [are] stretching out their hands," he said: This is at the time of death. And the "stretching" is striking; they strike their faces and their backs.
7636 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Khalid al-Ahmar narrated to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak: "And the angels [are] stretching out their hands," he said: With punishment, "'Discharge your souls!'" He said: Have you not seen His saying: "If you should stretch out your hand against me to kill me"? And it was narrated from Abu Salih: "stretching out their hands," he said: With punishment.
His saying: "Today you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation"
