[His saying: And thus do We diversify the verses...]
[The first interpretation]
7748 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah from Ibn 'Abbas: 'And so they will say, "You have studied [daras-ta]," (they said: You have read and learned), meaning: Quraysh will say that.
7749 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us from Sufyan from Abu Ishaq from al-Tamimi from Ibn 'Abbas: 'And so they will say, "You have studied [daras-ta]," he said: "You have read and learned."
In a narration by 'Ikrimah from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: "You have read [it] to the People of the Scripture."
7750 - My father narrated to us, al-Mu'alla ibn Asad narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mukhtar narrated to us from Abu al-Mu'alla al-'Attar from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, he said: 'Daras-ta,' he said: 'You have read [it].' He said, 'Yes,' and he cited this verse:
You found my reading like the taste of colocynth and wormwood.
The second interpretation:
7751 - al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Sufyan—meaning Ibn 'Uyaynah—narrated to us from 'Amr ibn Dinar from 'Amr ibn Kaysan from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: 'Daras-ta' [means]: you have recited, disputed, and debated.
7752 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us from Ibn Abi Najih from Mujahid: regarding His saying: 'And so they will say, "You have studied [daras-ta],"' [it means]: you have negotiated and read to the Jews, and they read to you.
The third interpretation:
7753 - al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' informed us, 'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar narrated to us, and al-Hasan said: 'Darasat' means: [it] has grown old and [it] has been erased.
7754 - Musa ibn al-Kufi narrated to us, Harun ibn Hatim narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us from Asbat ibn Nasr from al-Suddi from Abu Malik: regarding His saying: 'Daras-ta' means: the study of the Qur'an.

٧٧٤٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: وَلِيَقُولُوا دَرَسْتَ، (قَالُوا: قَرَأْتَ وَتَعَلَّمْتَ) «١» : تَقُولُ ذَلِكَ قُرَيْشٌ.
٧٧٤٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ «٢» عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ التَّمِيمِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: وليقولوا درست قَالَ: قَارَأْتَ «٣» وَتَعَلَّمْتَ.
وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: قَارَأْتَ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ.
٧٧٥٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا الْمُعَلَّى بْنُ أَسَدٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْمُخْتَارِ عَنْ أَبِي الْمُعَلَّى الْعَطَّارِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ: دَارَسْتَ، قَالَ، قَارَأْتَ. قَالَ، نَعَمْ، وَأَنْشَدَ هَذَا الْبَيْتَ:
وَجَدْتُمْ دراسي كَطَعْمِ الصَّابِ وَالْعَلْقَمِ.
الْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:
٧٧٥١ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ «٤» ثنا سُفْيَانُ- يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُيَيْنَةَ- عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ كَيْسَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: دَارَسْتَ تَلَوْتَ وَخَاصَمْتَ وَجَادَلْتَ.
٧٧٥٢ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ ثنا شَبَابَةُ ثنا وَرْقَاءُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ «٥»
: قوله: وليقولوا درست، فَاقَهْتَ وَقَرَأْتَ عَلَى يَهُودَ وَقَرَءُوا عَلَيْكَ.
الْوَجْهُ الثَّالِثُ:
٧٧٥٣ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ أنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ثنا مَعْمَرٌ وَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ:
دَرَسَتْ يقول: تَقَادَمَتْ، امَّحَتْ.
٧٧٥٤ - حَدَّثَنَا موسى ابن الْكُوفِيُّ ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي حَمَّادٍ عَنْ أَسْبَاطِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ: قَوْلُهُ: درست يعني: دراسة القرآن.
