from the polytheists so that they may argue with you, and if you obey them, you are indeed polytheists." He said: "The devils inspire their allies from among the polytheists so that they may argue with you."

7844 - It was narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr that he said regarding: "do inspire their allies": "Meaning from among the polytheists."

His saying: "so that they may argue with you"

7845 - 'Amr al-Awdi narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Isra'il, from Simak ibn Harb, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And indeed, the devils do inspire their allies so that they may argue with you," he said: "They used to say: 'Whatever has the name of Allah mentioned over it, do not eat it; and whatever has not had the name of Allah mentioned over it, eat it.' Allah the Almighty said: 'And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned.'"

7846 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Jarir narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And indeed, the devils do inspire their allies," he said: "The devils inspire their allies from among the polytheists so that they may argue with you, by saying: 'Will you eat from what you have killed, and not eat from what Allah has killed?' So He said: 'Indeed, that which you killed has the name of Allah mentioned over it, while that which died (on its own) has not had the name of Allah mentioned over it.'"

7847 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn Bukayr narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr: regarding the saying of Allah: "so that they may argue with you," meaning: concerning the matter of carrion.

His saying, the Almighty: "And if you obey them, you are indeed polytheists."

7848 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And if you obey them in everything that I have forbidden you from, you are indeed polytheists."

7849 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr: regarding His saying: "And if you obey them," meaning: considering it lawful to eat carrion, "you are indeed polytheists" like them.

7850 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Malik ibn Isma'il narrated to us, 'Isa ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, who said: I asked al-Sha'bi about this verse: "And if you obey them, you are indeed polytheists." He said: "I said: 'The Khawarij claim that it is concerning the rulers.' He said: 'They lied. This verse was only revealed'"
