His saying: "And We made for him light"
7856 - And by the same chain from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And We made for him light wherewith he walks among the people," he means by the light: the Qur'an; whoever believes in it and acts upon it.
7857 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi reported to me in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle narrated to me, from his father, from 'Atiyyah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Is one who was dead and We gave him life and made for him light wherewith he walks among the people," he said: "He means: guidance wherewith he walks among the people; he is the disbeliever whom Allah guides to Islam. He means: He was a polytheist and We guided him." It was narrated from Mujahid similar to the statement of 'Atiyyah.
7858 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi reported to me in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: regarding His saying: "And We made for him light wherewith he walks among the people," and it is Islam.
7859 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Is one who was dead and We gave him life and made for him light wherewith he walks among the people," this is the believer; he has a proof from Allah, by which he acts, by which he adopts (matters), and to which he refers; and it is the Book of Allah.

7860 - My father narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Yahya ibn al-Durays narrated to us, from Abu Sinan al-Shaybani regarding His saying: "And We made for him light wherewith he walks among the people," he said: "He acts by it among the people." He said: "It was revealed concerning 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him."
His saying: "As one whose similitude is in the darkness"

7861 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih the scribe of al-Layth narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "As one whose similitude is in the darkness," meaning by the darkness: disbelief and misguidance.
7862 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: regarding His saying: "As one whose similitude is in the darkness," he said: "In misguidance, forever." It was narrated from 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz similar to that.
قَوْلُهُ: وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُ نُورًا
٧٨٥٦ - وَبِهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: قَوْلَهُ: وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُ نُورًا يَمْشِي بِهِ في الناس يَعْنِي بِالنُّورِ: الْقُرْآنَ، مَنْ صَدَّقَ بِهِ وَعَمِلَ بِهِ.
٧٨٥٧ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْعَوْفِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنِي عَمِّي عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عباس: قوله: أَوَمَنْ كَانَ مَيْتًا فَأَحْيَيْنَاهُ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُ نُورًا يَمْشِي بِهِ فِي النَّاسِ قَالَ: يَقُولُ: الْهُدَى يَمْشِي بِهِ فِي النَّاسِ، وَهُوَ الْكَافِرُ يَهْدِيهِ اللَّهُ إِلَى الإِسْلامِ. يَقُولُ: كَانَ مُشْرِكًا فَهَدَيْنَاهُ. وَرُوِيَ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ نَحْوُ قَوْلِ عَطِيَّةَ.
٧٨٥٨ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ الأَوْدِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُفَضَّلٍ ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ:
قوله: وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُ نُورًا يَمْشِي بِهِ فِي النَّاسِ وَهُوَ الإِسْلامُ.
٧٨٥٩ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ثنا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ: قَوْلَهُ: أَوَمَنْ كَانَ مَيْتًا فَأَحْيَيْنَاهُ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُ نُورًا يَمْشِي بِهِ فِي النَّاسِ هَذَا الْمُؤْمِنُ، مَعَهُ مِنَ اللَّهِ بَيِّنَةٌ بِهَا يَعْمَلُ وَبِهَا يَأْخُذُ وَإِلَيْهَا يَنْتَهِي، وَهُوَ كِتَابُ اللَّهِ.
قَوْلُهُ: يَمْشِي بِهِ فِي النَّاسِ
٧٨٦٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ الضُّرَيْسِ عَنْ أَبِي سِنَانٍ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُ نُورًا يَمْشِي بِهِ فِي النَّاسِ قَالَ: يَعْمَلُ بِهِ فِي النَّاسِ:
قَالَ: نَزَلَتْ فِي عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ.

٧٨٦١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ كَاتِبُ اللَّيْثِ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ ابْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: قَوْلَهُ: كَمَنْ مَثَلُهُ فِي الظُّلُمَاتِ يَعْنِي بِالظُّلُمَاتِ الْكُفْرَ وَالضَّلالَةَ.
٧٨٦٢ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ ثنا شَبَابَةُ ثنا وَرْقَاءُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ:
قَوْلَهُ: كَمَنْ مَثَلُهُ فِي الظُّلُمَاتِ قَالَ: فِي الضَّلالَةِ أَبَدًا. وَرُوِيَ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
