A man caught sight of Ibn 'Abbas while he was entering through the door of the mosque. When he looked at him, he was awestruck and asked, "Who is this?" They replied, "Ibn 'Abbas, the cousin of the Messenger of Allah." He said, "Allah knows best with whom to place His Message."
His saying, the Mighty and Majestic: "Smallness will befall those who committed crimes, in the sight of Allah"
7870 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi reported to me in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: regarding His saying: "Smallness will befall those who committed crimes, in the sight of Allah," he said: "Smallness and humiliation."
His saying: "And a severe punishment for what they used to plot"
7871 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah reported to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "Punishment," he said: "Chastisement."
His saying: "So whoever Allah intends to guide, He expands his chest to Islam"
7872 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Ibn Idris narrated to us, from al-Hasan ibn al-Furat al-Qazzaz, from 'Amr ibn Murrah, from Abu Ja'far, he said: The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "'So whoever Allah intends to guide, He expands his chest to Islam.'" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "When faith enters the heart, the heart expands and opens up for it." They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, is there a sign for that?" He said, "Yes: turning towards the eternal abode, distancing oneself from the abode of deception, and preparing for death before death arrives."
7873 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Abu Khalid al-Ahmar narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Qays, from 'Amr ibn Murrah, from 'Abd Allah ibn al-Miswar, he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, recited this verse: "'So whoever Allah intends to guide, He expands his chest to Islam.'" They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is this expansion?" He said, "A light cast into the heart, whereby the heart expands." They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, is there a sign by which it is recognized?" He said, "Yes." They asked, "And what is it?" He said, "Turning towards the eternal abode, distancing oneself from the abode of deception, and preparing for death before death arrives."
7874 - Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani narrated to us, Hafs ibn 'Umar al-'Adani reported to us, al-Hakam ibn Aban narrated to us, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "'So whoever Allah intends to guide, He expands his chest to Islam,'" he says: "He widens his heart for the Oneness of Allah (Tawhid) and belief in Him."
أَبْصَرَ رَجُلٌ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ وَهُوَ يَدْخُلُ مِنْ بَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ، فَلَمَّا نَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ رَاعَهُ فَقَالَ: مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالُوا: ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ، ابْنُ عَمِّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ. قَالَ: اللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ حَيْثُ يَجْعَلُ رِسَالَتَهُ.
قَوْلُهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: سَيُصِيبُ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا صَغَارٌ عِنْدَ اللَّهُ
٧٨٧٠ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ الأَوْدِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُفَضَّلٍ ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ: قَوْلَهُ: سَيُصِيبُ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا صَغَارٌ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ والصغار والذلة.
قَوْلُهُ: وَعَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ بِمَا كَانُوا يَمْكُرُونَ
٧٨٧١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ ثنا مِنْجَابُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ أَنْبَأَ بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فِي قَوْلِهِ: عذاب قَالَ: نَكَالٌ.
قَوْلُهُ: فَمَنْ يُرِدِ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَهْدِيَهُ يَشْرَحْ صَدْرَهُ لِلإِسْلامِ
٧٨٧٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ ثنا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ الْفُرَاتِ الْقَزَّازِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: فَمَنْ يُرِدِ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَهْدِيَهُ يَشْرَحْ صَدْرَهُ لِلإِسْلامِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِذَا دَخَلَ الإِيمَانُ الْقَلْبَ انْفَسَحَ لَهُ الْقَلْبُ وَانْشَرَحَ. قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، هَلْ لِذَلِكَ مِنْ أَمَارَةٌ؟
قَالَ: نَعَمْ، الإِنَابَةُ إِلَى دَارِ الْخُلُودِ، وَالتَّجَافِي عَنْ دَارِ الْغُرُورِ، وَالاسْتِعْدَادُ لِلْمَوْتِ قَبْلَ الْمَوْتِ.
٧٨٧٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ ثنا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ عمرو ابن مُرَّةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمِسْوَرِ قَالَ: تَلا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَذِهِ الآيَةَ:
فَمَنْ يُرِدِ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَهْدِيَهُ يَشْرَحْ صَدْرَهُ لِلإِسْلامِ قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، مَا هَذَا الشَّرْحُ؟ قَالَ: نُورٌ يُقْذَفُ بِهِ فِي الْقَلْبِ، يَنْفَسِحُ لَهُ الْقَلْبُ. قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، فَهَلْ لِذَلِكَ مِنْ أَمَارَةٌ يُعْرَفُ بِهَا؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ. قَالُوا: وَمَا هِيَ؟ قَالَ: الإِنَابَةُ إِلَى دَارِ الْخُلُودِ، وَالتَّجَافِي عَنْ دَارِ الْغُرُورِ، وَالاسْتِعْدَادُ لِلْمَوْتِ قَبْلَ الْمَوْتِ.
