And it was narrated from Abu Malik similar to the statement of 'Ikrimah from Ibn 'Abbas.
His saying, the Exalted: "So whoever Allah intends to guide, He expands his chest to Islam," he says: "He widens his heart for the Oneness of Allah (Tawhid) and belief in Him." And it was narrated from Abu Malik similar to the statement of 'Ikrimah from Ibn 'Abbas.
His saying, the Exalted: "And whoever He intends to misguide, He makes his chest narrow and tight"
7875 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: regarding His saying: "And whoever He intends to misguide, He makes his chest narrow and tight," and the like of this from the Qur'an; for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was eager for all people to believe and to follow him in guidance. So Allah informed him that none will believe except for those for whom it was decreed in the first Reminder (Al-Dhikr al-Awwal). He says: "You have no part in the matter."
7876 - Muhammad ibn Sa'id reported to me in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle narrated to me, from his father, from 'Atiyyah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And whoever He intends to misguide, He makes his chest narrow and tight," he says: "Allah intends to misguide him, so He makes it narrow for him until He makes Islam narrow for him, while Islam is expansive. This is when He says: 'He has not laid upon you any hardship (haraj) in the religion.' He says: 'He has not laid any tightness upon you.'"

[The First Interpretation]
7877 - Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani narrated to us, Hafs ibn 'Umar reported to us, al-Hakam ibn Aban reported to us, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And whoever He intends to misguide, He makes his chest narrow and tight," he says: "Doubting."
The Second Interpretation:
7878 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Abu Yahya al-Himmani narrated to us, from Nadr, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas: regarding "tight (harajan)," he said: "Narrow."
It was narrated from Abu al-'Aliyah, Sa'id ibn Jubayr, 'Ikrimah, and al-Qasim ibn Muhammad the same as that.
7879 - al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to me, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from 'Ata' al-Khurasani, regarding His saying: "He makes his chest narrow and tight," he says: "There is no opening for good within it."
