"And We have instructed those who were given the Scripture before you and yourselves to fear Allah. But if you disbelieve, then to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And ever is Allah Free of need, Praiseworthy. If you fear Allah, Allah will suffice you in what concerns you, and if you fear the people, they will not avail you against Allah in anything."
His saying, the Almighty: "And ever is Allah Free of need, Praiseworthy."
[6069] Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, 'Amr al-'Anqazi narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, from 'Adi ibn Thabit, from al-Bara' ibn 'Azib: "And ever is Allah Free of need," meaning: [He is] free of need for your charities.
[6070] I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding the saying of Allah the Almighty: "And ever is Allah Free of need," he said: In His sovereignty, [He is free] of what you possess.
His saying, the Almighty: "Praiseworthy."
[6071] 'Abd Allah ibn Harun ibn al-Ash'ath mentioned, Ishaq ibn al-Hajjaj narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Hashim narrated to us, Sayf informed us, from Abu Rawq, from Ayyub, from 'Ali, regarding "And ever is Allah Free of need, Praiseworthy," i.e., he said: Praising Himself to His creation.
His saying, the Almighty: "And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs."
[6072] 'Ali ibn Tahir narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-'Ala' narrated to us, 'Uthman ibn Sa'id narrated to us: Gabriel said: "O Muhammad, all creation belongs to Allah; the heavens and all who are in them, the earths and all who are in them, and all that is between them, of that which He knows and that which He does not know."
His saying, the Almighty: "If He wills, He can take you away, O people."
[6073] My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "If He wills, He can take you away, O people, and bring others [in your place]. And ever is Allah competent to do that," he said: Our Lord is capable, by Allah, of doing that—to destroy whoever He wills of His creation and bring others in their place after them."
