[6109] I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, from Bukayr, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "Then he has gone astray," he says: "Then he has erred."
His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, those who have believed then disbelieved."
[6110] My father narrated to me, Abu Ghassan narrated to us, Sharik narrated to us, from Jabir, from 'Amir, he said: 'Ali said regarding the apostate: "If you are going to seek his repentance for three days," then he recited this verse: "Indeed, those who have believed then disbelieved, then believed, then disbelieved, then increased in disbelief."
[6111] Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Abu Khalid narrated to us, from Dawud ibn Abi Hind, from Abu al-'Aliyah regarding "Indeed, those who have believed then disbelieved, then believed, then disbelieved, then increased in disbelief," he said: "They are the Jews and the Christians; they sinned in their polytheism and repented, but it was not accepted from them. Had they repented from polytheism, it would have been accepted from them."
[6112] al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar reported from Qatadah regarding "Indeed, those who have believed," he said: "These are the Jews; they believed in the Torah, then they disbelieved in it."
His saying, the Almighty: "Then disbelieved."
[6113] al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq reported, Ma'mar reported from Qatadah, he said: "Then he mentioned the Christians and said: 'Then believed, then disbelieved,' he says: 'They believed in the Gospel, then they disbelieved in it.'"
His saying, the Almighty: "Then increased in disbelief."
[The First Aspect]
[6114] My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abdah narrated to us, Hafs ibn Jumay', from Simak, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Then increased in disbelief," he said: "They persisted in their disbelief until they died."
[6115] Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman—meaning Ibn Mahdi—narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding "Then increased in disbelief," he said: "They died."
And the Second Aspect:
[6116] al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq reported, and Ma'mar reported from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Then increased in disbelief," [meaning:] they disbelieved in Muhammad, peace be upon him."
