[6117] My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' reported from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Then increased in disbelief"—in the Criterion (al-Furqan) and Muhammad, peace be upon him.

His saying, the Almighty: "God would not forgive them."

[6118] And by the same chain, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "God would not forgive them, as they have disbelieved in the Books of God."

His saying, the Almighty: "Nor to guide them to a path."

[6119] And by the same chain, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Nor to guide them to a path," he said: "Nor will He guide them to a path of guidance, as they have disbelieved in the Books of God."

His saying, the Almighty: "Give tidings to the hypocrites that they will have a painful punishment."

[6120] 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi narrated to us, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Abu al-'Aliyah regarding His saying: "A painful punishment," he said: "The term 'painful' (alim) means agonizing in all of the Quran. This was also interpreted likewise by Ibn 'Abbas, Sa'id ibn Jubayr, al-Dahhak ibn Muzahim, Qatadah, Abu Malik, Abu 'Imran al-Jawfi, and Muqatil ibn Hayyan."

His saying, the Almighty: "Those who take the disbelievers as allies instead of the believers."

[6121] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "The disbelievers as allies instead of the believers," he said: "God the Almighty forbade the believers from being friendly toward the disbelievers and taking them as confidants instead of the believers, unless the disbelievers have the upper hand over them, in which case they show them friendliness while opposing them in religion."

[6122] Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "Allies instead of the believers," he said: "As for 'allies,' we befriend them in their religion and disclose to them the vulnerabilities of the believers."

His saying, the Almighty: "And He has already revealed to you in the Book."

[6123] I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim reported, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "And He has already revealed to you in the Book," he said: "In Surat al-An'am in Mecca."
