His saying, the Almighty: "But that he will surely believe in him before his death."

[The First Aspect]

[6249] My father narrated to me, Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna Abu Musa narrated to us, Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Sufyan ibn Husayn narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Hanzalah, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "'Isa ibn Maryam will descend; he will kill the swine, break the cross, and abolish the Jizyah. War will lay down its burdens, wealth will be given until it is no longer accepted, and prayer will be gathered for him. He will come to al-Rawha' and perform Hajj or 'Umrah from there, or Allah will gather both for him." Then Abu Hurayrah recited: "And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in him before his death," and said: "Before the death of 'Isa." Hanzalah said: "I do not know if this is originally a Hadith of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, or a statement from Abu Hurayrah."

[6250] Yunus ibn Habib narrated to us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Harun al-Ghanawi, who heard 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in him before his death," he said: "If a Jew were to fall from a wall to the ground, he would not die until he believes in him," meaning: in 'Isa, peace be upon him.

[The Second Aspect]

[6251] My father narrated to me, 'Ali ibn 'Uthman al-Lahiqi narrated to us, Juwayriyah ibn Bashir narrated to us, he said: I heard a man say to al-Hasan: "O Abu Sa'id, the saying of Allah the Almighty, 'And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in him before his death.'" He replied: "Before the death of 'Isa. Allah raised 'Isa unto Himself, and He will send him before the Day of Resurrection in a status whereby both the righteous and the wicked will believe in him."

[6252] Sulayman ibn Dawud, the freed slave of 'Abd Allah ibn Ja'far, narrated to us, Sahl narrated to us, al-Muharibi narrated to us, from Ash'ath, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in him before his death," he said: "They will believe with a belief that will not benefit them."

[6253] My father narrated to me, Muhammad ibn Kathir narrated to us, Sulayman narrated to us, from Husayn, from Abu Malik, he said: "There is no one on earth who lives until the descent of 'Isa ibn Maryam but that he will believe in him," and that is His saying: "And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in him before his death."
