Tafsir Ibn Abi Hatim
Volume 4 · Page 65His saying (the Exalted): 'And those who establish prayer and give Zakat.'

Translation · EN

His saying, the Almighty: "Those who establish prayer and those who give Zakah."

[6271] 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Mubarak ibn Fudalah narrated to us, from al-Hasan—meaning regarding His saying: "Those who establish prayer"—he said: "An obligatory ordinance, without which deeds are of no benefit; and Zakah is an obligatory ordinance, without which deeds are of no benefit."

[6272] 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Ibrahim Duhaym narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Namir, al-Zuhri said: "Establishing it means that you perform the five daily prayers at their appointed times."

His saying, the Almighty: "And the believers in Allah and the Last Day."

[6273] Mahmud ibn Adam al-Marwazi informed us, in what he wrote to me, he said: I heard al-Nadr ibn Shumayl saying: "The interpretation of 'the believer' is that he is safe (amin) from the punishment of Allah."

[6274] My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn 'Ammar narrated to us, al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, Khulayd narrated to us, from Qatadah who said: "The believers are those who cry out (al-'ajjajun) by night and day; by Allah, they did not cease saying 'Our Lord, our Lord' until it was answered for them."

[6275] Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "And the Last Day"—meaning: "And they affirm the Unseen, in which there is the recompense for deeds."

His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, We have revealed to you, as We revealed to Noah."

[6276] It was mentioned from Jarir, from al-A'mash, from Mundhir al-Thawri, from al-Rabi' regarding His saying: "Indeed, We have revealed to you, as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him"—he said: "Allah revealed to him as He revealed to all the prophets after him."

[6277] Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Abu Ghassan narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "Allah, the Almighty, says in the report concerning Abraham: 'He said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you"' [1]. Then he proceeded with that, and he knew that the revelation from Allah comes to the prophets while they are awake and while they are asleep. And the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was—as has reached me—saying: 'My eyes sleep, but my heart is awake.' So Allah knows best how that came to him, and he witnessed in it what he witnessed of the command of Allah, in whatever state he was, asleep or awake; all of that is truth and certainty."
