His saying, the Almighty: "And We revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, and Jacob."

[6278] Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan informed us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq who said: Sakin, Muhammad, and 'Adi ibn Yazid said: "O Muhammad, we do not know that anything was sent down upon any human after Moses." So Allah sent down regarding their statement: "Indeed, We have revealed to you, as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him, and We revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants [al-asbat]" [the verse].

His saying, the Almighty: "And the Descendants [al-asbat]."

[6279] 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah who said: "The Descendants [al-asbat] are Joseph and his brothers, the sons of Jacob, twelve men. Each man among them fathered a nation of people, so they were called the 'Asbat [Descendants/Tribes]."

It was narrated from Qatadah and al-Rabi' ibn Anas similar to this.

[6280] Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad ibn Talhah narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And the Descendants"—he said: "They are the sons of Jacob: Joseph, Benjamin, Reuben, Judah, Simeon, Levi, Dan, and Qahab [Gad]."

His saying, the Almighty: "And Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon" [the verse].

[6281] My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' who said: "The Zabur [Psalms] is: praise of Allah, supplication, and glorification."

His saying, the Almighty: "And We gave..."

[6282] And by the same chain from al-Rabi' regarding His saying: "And We gave"—he said: "Allah gave him."

His saying, the Almighty: "And [We sent] messengers about whom We have related to you before."

[6283] Muhammad ibn 'Awf al-Homsi narrated to us, Abu al-Mughirah narrated to us, Mu'an ibn Rifa'ah narrated to us, from 'Ali ibn Zayd, from al-Qasim, from Abu Umamah who said: "I said: 'O Prophet of Allah, how many are the prophets?' He said: 'One hundred and twenty-four thousand; the messengers among them are three hundred and fifteen, a great number.'"
