Translation · EN

His saying, the Almighty: "O mankind, the Messenger has come to you with the truth from your Lord."

[6302] Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan narrated to us, Salamah ibn al-Fadl narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, he said: regarding what Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad narrated to me, from 'Ikrimah, or Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: "O mankind"—meaning: all those of the two groups, the disbelievers and the hypocrites.

His saying, the Almighty: "O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion, and do not say about Allah except the truth."

[6303] My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn 'Ammar narrated to us, al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, from Khulayd ibn Da'laj, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Do not commit excess in your religion"—he said: "Do not innovate."

[6304] Abu Yazid Yusuf ibn Yazid al-Qartisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying regarding the saying of Allah the Almighty: "Do not commit excess in your religion"—he said: "Excess (ghuluww) is departing from the truth. Among the things they committed excess in was that they claimed for Allah a companion and a son; exalted is He and far above that."

[6305] My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Wahb ibn 'Atiyyah al-Dimashqi narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Khulayd ibn Da'laj narrated to us, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "Do not commit excess in your religion"—he said: "Do not transgress."

His saying, the Almighty: "The Messiah, 'Isa, son of Maryam, is but a messenger of Allah."

[The First Aspect]

[6306] Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Mansur, from Ibrahim, he said: "The Messiah"—meaning: "The Truthful (al-Siddiq)."

[The Second Aspect]

[6307] 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Abu Tahir narrated to us, Ibn Wahb informed us, 'Amr ibn al-Harith informed me that Sa'id ibn Abi Hilal narrated to him, that Yahya ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Thaqafi narrated to him, that 'Isa, son of Maryam, was a wanderer (sa'ih), and that is why he was called the Messiah (al-Masih). He said: "He would walk in one land and spend the morning in another."

His saying, the Almighty: "'Isa, son of Maryam, is a messenger of Allah."
