[Surah al-Ma'idah]
[5] In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. The Shaykh, the Imam, the Hafiz, Abu Muhammad ‘Abd al-Rahman, son of the illustrious Imam, the Hafiz, Abu Hatim Muhammad ibn Idris al-Razi—may Allah have mercy upon them both—said:
His saying, the Almighty: "Do you not know that to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth?"
[6346] ‘Ali ibn Abi Dulama al-Baghdadi narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Wahhab ibn ‘Ata’ narrated to us, Sa’id ibn Abi ‘Arubah narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Safwan ibn Muhriz, from Hakim ibn Hizam, who said: While the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was among his companions, he said to them: "Do you hear what I hear?" They replied: "We do not hear anything." So the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "I surely hear. There is no space in it the size of something except that there is an angel upon it, prostrating and standing."
[6347] Ahmad ibn ‘Isam al-Ansari narrated to us, Mu’ammal narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad narrated to us, from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Harith, who said: Ka’b said: "There is no spot on earth the size of a needle’s eye except that there is an angel appointed over it, lifting the knowledge of that to Allah. And indeed, the angels of the heaven are more numerous than the particles of sand, and indeed, the distance between the ankle of one of the Bearers of the Throne and his marrow is a journey of one hundred years."
His saying: "He punishes whom He wills."
[6348] Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "He punishes whom He wills," he says: "He causes whomever He wills among you to die while in a state of disbelief, so he is punished."
His saying, the Almighty: "And He forgives whom He wills."
[6349] Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim narrated to us, via his chain of transmission leading to al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And He forgives whom He wills," he says: "He guides whomever He wills among you in the world, so He forgives him."
