His saying, the Almighty: "And they were witnesses over it"
[6417] Muhammad ibn Sa'id informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And they were witnesses over it"—they are the witnesses for Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) that what he said is the truth that came from Allah. For he is the Prophet of Allah, Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). The Jews came to him, and he judged between them with the truth.
His saying, the Almighty: "So do not fear the people, but fear Me"
[6418] Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "So do not fear the people, but fear Me"—he says: Do not fear the people, and thus conceal what I have revealed.
[6419] I read to Muhammad, Muhammad narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil, regarding His saying: "So do not fear the people" in the matter of Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and [the law of] stoning—he says: Make manifest the matter of Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and [the law of] stoning.
His saying, the Almighty: "And fear Me"
[6420] And through the same chain, from Muqatil, regarding His saying: "And fear Me"—in [the act of] concealing [the matter of] Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and [the law of] stoning.
His saying, the Almighty: "And do not trade my verses"
[6421] 'Isam ibn Rawwad al-'Asqalani narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far narrated to us, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas: "[They] do not trade the verses of Allah for a small price"—he said: Do not accept a fee for teaching the Qur'an.
[6422] Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, who said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: "And do not trade my verses for a small price"—he said: Do not consume illicit gain (suht) upon us as the Jews did.
His saying, the Almighty: "My verses"
[6423] It was mentioned from al-Hasan ibn 'Ali al-Hulwani, Sa'id ibn Abi Maryam narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: "And do not trade my verses for a small price"—that the verses are the Book which He revealed to them, and that the small price is the world and its desires.
