His saying, the Almighty: "Thus do We bring the dead to life; perhaps you will remember."
8613 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid (1) regarding His saying: "Thus do We bring the dead to life," [meaning] We send rain from the sky until the earth splits open for them.
8614 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed us in writing, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "Thus do We bring the dead to life; perhaps you will remember," and likewise will you be brought forth, and likewise is the resurrection, just as the crops emerge with water.
His saying, the Almighty: "And the good land - its vegetation emerges by the permission of its Lord."
8615 - My father told us, Abu Salih the scribe of al-Layth told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And the good land - its vegetation emerges by the permission of its Lord," this is a parable Allah set forth for the believers; He says: He is good and his deed is good, just as the good land [produces] good fruit.
8616 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "And the good land, and that which is evil - all of this is from the salt-lands and other than it," [it is] a parable of Adam and his descendants, all of them; among them are the evil and among them are the good.
8617 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And the good land - its vegetation emerges by the permission of its Lord," this is a parable Allah set forth. They say: The rain descends, so the good land brings forth its vegetation by the permission of Allah. Likewise are hearts: when the Quran descended, the heart of the believer believed in it, and faith was established in his heart. The heart of the disbeliever, when faith entered it, nothing beneficial adhered to it, and nothing of faith remained established in it except that which is of no benefit, just as this [bad] land does not bring forth anything except what is of no benefit in terms of vegetation.
His saying, the Almighty: "By the permission of its Lord."
8618 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Muhammad ibn al-'Ala' told us, 'Uthman ibn Sa'id told us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah told us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas: "By the permission of Allah," he says: By the command of Allah.
