His saying, the Almighty: "The eminent among those who disbelieved said."

8647 - Through the same chain, Muhammad ibn Ishaq told me, who said: Among the accounts of 'Ad is that Allah sent Hud to them, and he commanded them to declare the oneness of Allah and not to set up any god with Him, and to refrain from oppressing people. He did not command them—in what is mentioned, and Allah knows best—with anything else. So they refused him and denied him, and said: "Who is stronger than us in power?" A few of them followed him, and they were a small number who kept their faith secret. Among those who believed in him and affirmed him was a man from 'Ad called Mazid ibn Mas'ad ibn 'Ufayr, and he used to conceal his faith.

His saying, the Almighty: "A messenger from the Lord of the worlds."

8648 - Kathir ibn Shihab told us, Muhammad ibn Sa'id ibn Sabiq told us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi told us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah regarding His saying: "Lord of the worlds," he said: The Jinn are a world, and humanity is a world, and apart from that, there are eighteen thousand worlds of angels, and upon the earth, in every corner of it, are four thousand and five hundred worlds that He created for His worship, Blessed and Exalted is He.

His saying, the Almighty: "I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I am to you a trustworthy advisor."

8649 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, who said: So he came to them—meaning Hud—and preached to them and reminded them of what Allah related in His Book. But they denied him and disbelieved, and asked him to bring the punishment upon them. So he said to them: "The knowledge is only with Allah, and I convey to you that with which I have been sent."

His saying, the Almighty: "Do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord on a man from among you, that he may warn you?"

8650 - Through the same chain, from al-Suddi, meaning His saying: "That he may warn you," he said: So he came to them—meaning Hud—and preached to them and reminded them.

His saying, the Almighty: "And remember when He made you successors after the people of Noah."

8651 - Through the same chain, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And remember when He made you successors after the people of Noah," as for successors, He caused the people of Noah to pass away and made you succeed them after them.
