al-Marwazi told us, Shayban told us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "of the truthful," he said: Truthfulness in intention, truthfulness in action, truthfulness by night and by day, and truthfulness in secret and in public.

His saying, the Almighty: "Already have fallen upon you from your Lord defilement and anger."

8659 - My father told us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Already have fallen upon you from your Lord defilement," he says: Wrath.

8660 - Abu Yazid informed me in what he wrote to me, Asbagh told us, he said: I heard Ibn Zayd saying regarding His saying: "Already have fallen upon you from your Lord defilement and anger," he said: A punishment and anger came to them from Him. He said: "Defilement" (al-rijs) is named here as punishment, and he said: "Defilement," in its entirety, is punishment in the Qur'an.

His saying, the Almighty: "So We saved him and those who were with him."

8661 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah told us, Salamah told us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq who said: He withdrew—according to what was mentioned to me—along with those who were with him of the believers into an enclosure, such that neither he nor those with him were touched by anything except what softened their skins and delighted their souls, and that it would pass by 'Ad with the winds between heaven and earth, "And we pelted them with stones."

His saying, the Almighty: "And We eliminated the last remnant of those who denied Our signs."

8662 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed me in what he wrote to me, Asbagh told us, he said: I heard Ibn Zayd saying regarding the saying of Allah: "And We eliminated the last remnant of those who denied Our signs," he said: We utterly destroyed them.

His saying, the Almighty: "And to Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih. He said, 'O my people, worship Allah,'" to the end of the verse.

8663 - Muhammad ibn 'Ammar told us, Sahl ibn Bakkar told us, Dawud ibn Abi al-Furat told us, from 'Ali ibn Ahmar, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas: That Salih the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was sent by Allah to his people, and they believed in him. Then he died, and they turned back after him from Islam. Then Allah brought Salih back to life and sent him to them, so he informed them that he was Salih, but they denied him and said: "Salih has indeed died, so bring us a sign." Then Allah brought them the she-camel, but they disbelieved in him, hamstrung it, and Allah destroyed them.
