8736 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed me in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: "Jathimin (falling prone)" [meaning]: dead.

His saying, the Almighty: "Those who denied Shu'ayb, as if they had not prospered therein."

8737 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-A'la al-San'ani told us, Muhammad ibn Thawr told us, from Ma'mar, from Qatadah: "As if they had not prospered [yaghnu] therein," [meaning]: as if they had not lived therein, as if they had not enjoyed comfort therein. It was also narrated from Abu Malik that he said: "As if they had not prospered therein," [meaning]: as if they had not been there.

His saying, the Almighty: "And he turned away from them and said: O my people, I have certainly conveyed to you the messages of my Lord and I advised you."

8738 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Safwan told us, al-Walid told us, Sa'id ibn Bashir told us, from Qatadah regarding the saying of Allah: "And he turned away from them and said: O my people, I have certainly conveyed to you the messages of my Lord and I advised you," [that] the Prophet of Allah, Shu'ayb (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), made his people hear, and the Prophet of Allah, Salih (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), made his people hear, and by Allah, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made his people hear.

8739 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Muhammad ibn 'Isa told us, Salamah told us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq told me, he said: It has reached me—and Allah knows best—that Allah unleashed the heat upon them until, when it had cooked them, He created for them a covering (shadow) like a black cloud. When they saw it, they rushed toward it, seeking relief in its coolness from what they were in. Until, when they entered under it, it collapsed upon them, and they all perished. Allah (the Almighty and Majestic) saved Shu'ayb and those who believed with him. A sorrow then afflicted him for his people because of the punishment of Allah that had befallen them. Then he said, consoling himself regarding what Allah mentioned of him: "O my people, I have certainly conveyed to you the messages of my Lord and I advised you, so how could I grieve for a disbelieving people?"

His saying, the Almighty: "So how could I grieve [asa]?"

8740 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "So how could I grieve [asa]," [saying]: So how could I be sad?

His saying, the Almighty: "And We did not send a prophet to any town but that We seized its people with poverty [al-ba'sa']"

8741 - Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan told us, 'Amr ibn Muhammad al-'Anqazi told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, from Murrah, from 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "With poverty [al-ba'sa']," he said: Al-ba'sa' is poverty. It was also narrated from Ibn 'Abbas, Abu al-'Aliyah, al-Hasan in one of his two opinions, Murrah al-Hamdani, Sa'id ibn Jubayr, Mujahid, al-Dahhak, al-Rabi' ibn Anas, al-Suddi, and Muqatil ibn Hayyan something similar.
