The second aspect:

8782 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Safwan ibn al-Walid told us, Sa'id ibn Bashir told us, from Qatadah, who said: Allah preceded them at that with most of them, so He said: "And We did not find for most of them any covenant. And We found most of them indeed to be defiantly disobedient."

8783 - My father told us, Abu Salamah told us, Mubarak told us, from al-Hasan regarding: "And We did not find for most of them any covenant," he said: The covenant is faithfulness.

His saying, the Almighty: "And We found most of them indeed to be defiantly disobedient"

8784 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed me in what he wrote to me, my father told me, my paternal uncle told me, from his father, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "And We found most of them indeed to be defiantly disobedient," and that is because Allah only destroyed the villages because they had not upheld what He had enjoined upon them.

8785 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid (1) regarding His saying: "most of them indeed to be defiantly disobedient," [it refers to] the past generations.

His saying, the Almighty: "Then We sent after them Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were unjust toward them"

8786 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj told us, Abu Yahya al-Razi told us, from Musa ibn 'Ubaydah, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, who said: Pharaoh lived for three hundred years; for two hundred and twenty years of which he did not see what would hurt his eye, and Moses called him [to the truth] for eighty years.

8787 - My father told us, Ibrahim ibn Sa'id al-Jawhari told us, Abu Usamah told us, Shibl told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, who said: Pharaoh was a Persian from the people of Istakhr.

8788 - It was read to Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la, Ibn Wahb informed [us], Ibn Lahi'ah informed me: That Pharaoh was from the people of Egypt.

His saying, the Almighty: "And Moses said, 'O Pharaoh, I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds'"

8789 - It was mentioned from Ibn Abi 'Umar al-Sa'dani, Sufyan told us, from Abu Sa'id, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: It only increased him in defiance. He said: "I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds."
