Moses gave him the reply that he gave. Then Pharaoh said: "Seize him!" Moses anticipated him and threw down his staff, and it became a clear serpent (thu'ban mubin). It charged at the people, and they fled from it; twenty-five thousand of them died as they killed one another. Pharaoh stood up and fled until he entered the house.

His saying, the Almighty: "And it became a clear serpent."

8793 - 'Ammar ibn Khalid told us, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan and Yazid ibn Harun told us, from Asbagh ibn Zayd, from al-Qasim ibn Abi Ayyub, Sa'id ibn Jubayr told me, from Ibn 'Abbas: "So he threw down his staff," and it transformed into a huge serpent, gaping its mouth, rushing toward Pharaoh. When Pharaoh saw it heading toward him, he feared it, so he rushed upon his throne and pleaded with Moses to restrain it from him, and he did so.

8794 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj told us, 'Ubaydah told us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "A clear serpent," he said: The male snake.
