The second interpretation:

8831 - My father told us, 'Abd Allah ibn 'Imran told us, Ishaq ibn Sulayman al-Razi told us, from al-Mughirah ibn Muslim, from Maymun Abu Hamzah who said: I was sitting with Abu Wa'il when a man called Abu 'Afif, one of the companions of Mu'adh, entered upon us. Shaqiq ibn Salamah said to him: O Abu 'Afif, will you not tell us about Mu'adh ibn Jabal? He said: Yes, I heard him saying: "People will be detained on the Day of Resurrection in a single plain, then a caller will call out: 'Where are the righteous (al-muttaqin)?'

They will rise under the protection of the Most Merciful; Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, will not be veiled from them nor will He hide Himself." I said: Who are the righteous? He said: "A people who feared shirk (associating others with Allah) and the worship of idols, and who devoted their worship sincerely to Allah, so they will proceed to Paradise."

The third interpretation:

8832 - Muhammad ibn Yahya told us, Abu Ghassan Muhammad ibn 'Amr Zunayj told us, Salamah told us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq who said: Regarding what was narrated to me by Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad, the freed slave of Zayd ibn Thabit, from 'Ikrimah or Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, he says: "To the righteous" means: Those who fear Allah's punishment by abandoning what they know of guidance, and hope for His mercy by believing in what has come from Him.

The fourth interpretation:

8833 - Abu Zur'ah told us, 'Amr ibn Hammad told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi regarding "to the righteous," he said: They are the believers.
