And the fourth interpretation:
8859 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj told us, Abu 'Abd al-Rahman al-Harithi told us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak, he said: Drowning.
And the fifth interpretation:
8860 - It was mentioned from Abu 'Asim, from 'Isa ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: The flood is water and the plague.
8861 - My father told us, Abu Salih the scribe of al-Layth told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "So We sent upon them the flood," and it is the rain, until they feared destruction. So they came to Musa and said, "O Musa, pray to your Lord for us to lift the rain from us, for we will believe in you and we will send the Children of Israel with you." He prayed to his Lord, and He lifted the rain from them. Allah then caused their crops to grow and their lands became fertile. They said, "We do not wish that we had not been rained upon; we will not leave our gods, we will not believe in you, and we will not send the Children of Israel with you." So Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, sent upon them the locusts.
8862 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn Wahb ibn 'Atiyyah al-Dimashqi told us, al-Haytham ibn 'Imran al-'Absi told us, he said: I heard Isma'il ibn 'Ubayd Allah saying: The flood that afflicted the people was in the month of Nisan.
His saying, the Almighty: "And the locusts"
8863 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "And the locusts," he said: So Allah sent upon them the locusts, and they acted quickly in destroying their fruits and their crops. They said, "O Musa, pray to your Lord for us to lift the locusts from us, for we will believe in you and we will send the Children of Israel with you." He prayed to his Lord, and He lifted the locusts from them. They had some remnants of their crops and livelihoods left, so they said, "What remains for us is sufficient; we will not believe in you and we will not send the Children of Israel with you."
8864 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, 'Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah told us, Jarir told us, from Ya'qub, from Ja'far, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: So they said, "O Musa, pray to your Lord for us to lift the rain from us, and we will believe in you and send the Children of Israel with you." He prayed to his Lord, and Allah lifted from them

٨٨٥٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحَارِثِيُّ، عَنْ جُوَيْبِرٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ قَالَ: الْغَرَقُ.
وَالْوَجْهُ الْخَامِسُ:
٨٨٦٠ - ذُكِرَ، عَنْ أَبِي عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ: الطُّوفَانُ الْمَاءُ وَالطَّاعُونُ.
٨٨٦١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ كَاتِبُ اللَّيْثِ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلُهُ: فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ الطُّوفَانَ وَهُوَ الْمَطَرُ حَتَّى خَافُوا الْهَلاكَ فَأَتَوْا مُوسَى قَالُوا يَا مُوسَى: ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يَكْشِفُ عَنَّا الْمَطَرَ فَإِنَّا نُؤْمِنُ لَكَ وَنُرْسِلُ مَعَكَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ فَكَشَفَ عَنْهُمُ الْمَطَرَ، فَأَنْبَتَ اللَّهُ حَرْثَهُمْ، وَأَخْصَبَتْ بِلادُهُمْ، فَقَالُوا: مَا نُحِبُّ أَنَّا لَمْ نُمْطَرْ فَلَنْ نَتْرُكَ آلِهَتَنَا، وَلَنْ نُؤْمِنَ لَكَ، وَلَنْ نُرْسِلَ مَعَكَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، فَأَرْسَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَيْهِمُ الْجَرَادَ.
٨٨٦٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ وَهْبِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، ثنا الْهَيْثَمُ ابْنُ عِمْرَانَ الْعَبْسِيُّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنَ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ: كَانَ الطُّوفَانُ الَّذِي أَصَابَ النَّاسَ فِي نِيسَانَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَالْجَرَادَ
٨٨٦٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عن ابن عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلُهُ: وَالْجَرَادَ قَالَ: فَأَرْسَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْجَرَادَ فَأَسْرَعَ فِي فَسَادِ ثِمَارِهِمْ وَزُرُوعِهِمْ، قَالُوا يَا مُوسَى: ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يَكْشِفُ عَنَّا الْجَرَادَ، فَإِنَّا سَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ: وَنُرْسِلُ مَعَكَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ فَكَشَفَ عَنْهُمُ الْجَرَادَ، وَكَانَ قَدْ بَقِيَ لَهُمْ مِنْ زَرْعِهِمْ وَمَعَايِشِهِمْ بَقَايَا، فَقَالُوا: قَدْ بَقِيَ لَنَا مَا هُوَ كَافِينَا، فَلَنْ نُؤْمِنَ لَكَ وَلَنْ نُرْسِلَ مَعَكَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ.
٨٨٦٤ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ، عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: فَقَالُوا: يَا مُوسَى ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يَكْشِفُ عَنَّا الْمَطَرَ فَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ، وَنُرْسِلُ مَعَكَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ فَكَشَفَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمُ
