[His saying, the Almighty: "And when the Rijs (plague/punishment) fell upon them"]
[The first interpretation]
8887 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj told us, Waki' told us, Sufyan told us, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Ibrahim ibn Sa'd, from Sa'd ibn Malik, and Usamah ibn Zayd, and Khuzaymah ibn Thabit, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The plague is a rijs (affliction/punishment) with which a people before you were punished."
8888 - Muhammad ibn Yahya told us, Abu Ghassan informed us, Jarir told us, from Ya'qub, from Ja'far, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: When the Rijs fell upon them, they said: "O Moses, pray to your Lord for us by the covenant He has made with you, that if you lift the Rijs from us, we will surely believe in you and we will surely send with you the Children of Israel." And the Rijs is the plague.
It was narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr that he said: The Rijs is the plague.

8889 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "The Rijs": The punishment.
His saying, the Almighty: "But when We removed the Rijs from them"
8890 - Muhammad ibn Yahya told us, Abu Ghassan informed us, Jarir told us, from Ya'qub, from Ja'far ibn Muhammad, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: Moses commanded his people from the Children of Israel and said: "Let every man among you slaughter a ram, then stain his palm in its blood, then strike his door [with it]." He said: The Copts said: "Does your Lord not know you except by these signs?" They replied: "This is what our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded us." He said: So they awoke, and seventy thousand of Pharaoh's people had been struck with the plague. He said: They reached the evening and were not burying one another. He said: So Pharaoh said to him regarding that: "Pray to your Lord for us by the covenant He has made with you, that if you lift the Rijs from us, we will surely believe in you and we will surely send with you the Children of Israel." And the Rijs is the plague. He said: So he prayed to his Lord, and He lifted it from them, and the most fulfilling of them all was Pharaoh, who said: "Take the Children of Israel wherever you wish."
His saying, the Almighty: "Until a term which they were to reach"
8891 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Minjab ibn al-Harith told us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, concerning His saying: "Until a term which they were to reach," he said: The drowning.

٨٨٨٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا وَكِيعٌ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، وَأُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ وَخُزَيْمَةَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: الطَّاعُونُ رِجْزٌ عَذَابٌ عُذِّبَ بِهِ قَوْمٌ قَبْلَكُمْ.
٨٨٨٨ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنْبَأَ أَبُو غَسَّانَ، ثنا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: وَلَمَّا وَقَعَ عَلَيْهِمُ الرِّجْزُ قَالُوا يَا مُوسَى ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِنْدَكَ لَئِنْ كَشَفْتَ عَنَّا الرِّجْزَ لَنُؤْمِنَنَّ لَكَ وَلَنُرْسِلَنَّ مَعَكَ بَنِي إسرائيل وَالرِّجْزُ: الطَّاعُونَ.
وَرُوِيَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: الرِّجْزُ الطَّاعُونَ.
وَالْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:
٨٨٨٩ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلُهُ: الرِّجْزُ: الْعَذَابُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: فَلَمَّا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمُ الرِّجْزَ
٨٨٩٠ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنْبَأَ أَبُو غَسَّانَ، ثنا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: أَمَرَ مُوسَى قَوْمَهُ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ فَقَالَ: لِيَذْبَحْ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ مِنْكُمْ كَبْشًا ثُمَّ لِيُخَضِّبْ كَفَّهُ فِي دَمِهِ، ثُمَّ لِيَضْرِبْ عَلَى بَابِهِ، قَالَ فَقَالَتِ الْقِبْطُ: فَمَا يَعْرِفُكُمُ اللَّهُ إِلا بِهَذِهِ الْعَلامَاتِ، قَالُوا: هَكَذَا أَمَرَنَا نَبِيُّنَا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: فَأَصْبَحُوا وَقَدْ طُعِنَ مِنْ قَوْمِ فِرْعَوْنَ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفٍ ذُرًى قَالَ: فَأَمْسُوا وَهُمْ لَا يَتَدَافَنُونَ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ لَهُ فِرْعَوْنُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ: ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِنْدَكَ لَئِنْ كَشَفْتَ عَنَّا الرِّجْزَ لَنُؤْمِنَنَّ لَكَ، وَلَنُرْسِلَنَّ مَعَكَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَالرِّجْزُ:
الطَّاعُونُ قَالَ: فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ فَكَشَفَ عَنْهُمْ فَكَانَ أَوْفَاهُمْ كُلُّهُمْ فِرْعَوْنَ، قَالَ: اذْهَبْ بِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ حَيْثُ شِئْتَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِلَى أَجْلٍ هُمْ بَالِغُوهُ
