His saying: "And not transgressing [it]."
[The first aspect]
8026 - It was mentioned from Muhammad ibn Rabi'ah, Salamah ibn Sabur told us, from 'Atiyyah, from Ibn 'Abbas: Regarding His saying: "But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [it]"—he said: "Neither desiring [it] in the carrion, nor transgressing [it] in his eating."
The second aspect:
8027 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj told us, Abu Khalid told us, from al-Hajjaj, from al-Qasim, from Mujahid: "Neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [it]"—he said: "The transgressor [al-'adi] is the one who frightens [others] on the road." It was narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr similarly.
The third aspect:
8028 - Abu Zur'ah told us, 'Amr ibn Hammad told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi: "As for the transgressor, he transgresses in his eating, by eating until he is full; but rather, he [should eat] only the amount of his sustenance that preserves his soul until he reaches his need."
8029 - Abu Zur'ah told us, al-Hasan ibn 'Amr ibn 'Awn al-Bahili told us, Yazid ibn Zuray' told us, Sa'id told us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [it]"—in his eating, that he should transgress from the lawful to the forbidden while he still has a means of relief.
His saying: "Indeed, your Lord is Forgiving, Merciful."
[8030] I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali told us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim told us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: "Forgiving, Merciful"—regarding what was eaten under necessity. And it reached us—and Allah knows best—that he should not exceed three morsels.
8031 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah told us, Ibn Lahi'ah told us, 'Ata' told me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr: "Indeed, your Lord is Forgiving," meaning: for what he ate of the forbidden; "Merciful," meaning: merciful to him, since He made the forbidden lawful for him in [the state of] necessity.
His saying: "And upon those who are Jews."
8032 - My father told us, Ahmad ibn Yunus told us, Abu 'Awanah told us, from Abu Bishr, from Mujahid, he said: "The Jews practiced Judaism on the Sabbath."
