His saying, the Almighty: "Then the appointed time of his Lord was completed to forty nights."
8921 - It is mentioned from Huraym ibn 'Abd al-A'la, Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman told us, from his father who said: al-Hadrami claimed that the thirty nights for which Moses was promised were Dhu al-Qa'dah and the twenty (nights) of Dhu al-Hijjah, with which Allah completed the forty nights.
His saying, the Almighty: "And Moses said to his brother Aaron: Take my place among my people."
8922 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad al-'Asqalani told us, Adam—meaning al-'Asqalani—told us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi told us, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Abu al-'Aliyah regarding his saying: "And We made an appointment with Moses for thirty nights and completed them with ten"... to the end of the verse. Meaning Dhu al-Qa'dah and ten from Dhu al-Hijjah, and that is when Moses left behind his companions and appointed Aaron as his successor over them. He remained on the Mount for forty nights and the Torah was sent down to him on the tablets. The Lord brought him near to speak in confidence, and he heard the scratching of the pen. It reached us that he did not commit any act of disobedience during the forty nights until he descended from the Mount.
His saying, the Almighty: "And do not follow the path of the corruptors."
8923 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Muhammad ibn al-'Ula told us, Yahya ibn al-Mundhir told us, Ibn al-Ajlah told us, from his father who said: We were walking with al-Dahhak when he passed by people in a field, and al-Dahhak called out to me: "Do not tread the path of the corruptors."
His saying, the Almighty: "And when Moses arrived at Our appointed time."
8924 - My father told us, al-Haytham ibn al-Yaman told us, a man told us, al-Suddi said: He told me: "And when Moses arrived at Our appointed time," he said: The appointment.
His saying, the Almighty: "And his Lord spoke to him."
8925 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Harun al-Hammal and al-Qasim ibn 'Isa told us, saying: 'Ali ibn 'Asim told us, from al-Fadl ibn 'Isa al-Raqashi, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah, he said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "When Allah, Blessed and Exalted, spoke to Moses on the day of the Mount, He spoke to him with a speech different from His first speech. Moses was frightened by that and said: 'O Lord, is this Your speech with which You spoke to me?' He said: 'No, O Moses; I spoke to you with the power of ten thousand tongues, and I possess the power of all tongues, and I am stronger than that.'" When he returned to the Children of Israel, they said to him: "O Moses..."
