Ibn 'Abbas: "Between us and the adherents of Qadar [divine decree] is this verse: 'Those who associated partners with Allah will say, "If Allah had willed, we would not have associated [anything] and neither would our fathers, nor would we have forbidden anything." Likewise did those before them deny until they tasted Our punishment. Say, "Do you have any knowledge that you can bring forth for us? You follow only assumption, and you are not but lying."'"

To His saying: "For if He had willed, He would have guided you all."

His saying: "Say, 'To Allah belongs the conclusive argument.'"

8050 - My father told us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman told us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far told us, from his father, from al-Rabi', who said: "There is no argument for anyone who disobeyed Allah, but to Allah belongs the conclusive argument over His servants."

[His saying: "For if He had willed, He would have guided you all."]

8051 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: Regarding the saying of Allah, blessed and exalted be He: "If I had willed, I would have gathered them all upon guidance."

His saying: "Say, 'Bring forward your witnesses who will testify that Allah forbade this.'"

8052 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi: "Say, 'Bring forward your witnesses,'" he said: "Show me your witnesses."

His saying: "who will testify that Allah forbade this."

8053 - Al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan told us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah al-Harawi told us, Hajjaj ibn Muhammad informed us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujahid: "Who will testify that Allah forbade this": the bahirah and the sa'ibah [types of animals].

8054 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman al-Awdi informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi: His saying: "Who will testify that Allah forbade this," regarding what the Arabs forbade, and they said: "Allah commanded us to do so."

His saying: "So if they testify, do not testify with them."

8055 - Through him, from al-Suddi, who said: "The Arabs forbade it, and they said: 'Allah commanded us to do so.' Allah said to His Messenger: 'So if they testify, do not testify with them.'"
