8383 - Abu al-Azhar al-Naysaburi informed us in what he wrote to me, Wahb ibn Jarir told us, my father told us, from 'Ali ibn al-Hakam, from al-Dahhak, who said: Ibn 'Abbas said: When the Children of Israel were in the wilderness (al-tih), He split rivers for them from the stone.

His saying, the Almighty: "Each people knew their drinking place"

8384 - 'Ammar ibn Khalid told us, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan and Yazid ibn Harun told us—the wording being that of Muhammad—from Asbagh ibn Zayd, from al-Qasim ibn Abi Ayyub, Sa'id ibn Jubayr told me, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Each people knew their drinking place"—He made every tribe know the spring from which they would drink. They would not move from one camping spot to another without finding that stone with them in the same place it had been in the first station.

8385 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad told us, Adam told us, Abu Safwan al-Qasim ibn Yazid told us, from Yahya Abu al-Nadr who said: I said to Juwaybir: How did each people know their drinking place? He said: Musa would place the stone, and a man from each tribe would stand up. Musa would strike the stone, and twelve springs would gush forth from it. The water would spray from each spring onto a man, and that man would call his tribe to that spring.

His saying, the Almighty: "And We shaded you with clouds"

8386 - And 'Ammar ibn Khalid al-Wasiti told us, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan and Yazid ibn Harun told us—the wording being that of Muhammad—from Asbagh ibn Zayd, from al-Qasim ibn Abi Ayyub, Sa'id ibn Jubayr told me, from Ibn 'Abbas who said: Then He shaded them in the wilderness with clouds (al-ghamama). It has been narrated from Ibn 'Umar, Abu Mijlaz, al-Rabi', al-Dahhak, and al-Suddi something similar.

8387 - Muhammad ibn 'Ubayd Allah al-Munadi informed us in what he wrote to me, Yunus ibn Muhammad told us, Shayban told us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And We shaded you with clouds"—he said: This was in the wilderness; He shaded them with clouds from the sun. It has been narrated from al-Hasan something similar.

His saying, the Almighty: "Clouds" (al-ghamama)

8388 - My father told us, Abu Hudhayfah told us, Shibl told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding: "And We shaded you with clouds"—he said: The clouds are not the clouds in which Allah will come on the Day of Resurrection, and they were only for them.
