We will forgive you your sins." But they substituted [the word]; so they entered crawling on their posteriors and said: "Habbah (a grain) in a hair."

8433 - Ahmad ibn Sinan al-Wasiti told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi told us, from Sufyan, from al-Suddi, from Abu Sa'd al-Azdi, from Abu al-Kanud, from 'Abd Allah, regarding "And say 'Hittah'"—they said: "Hintah" (wheat), a red grain containing a hair. So Allah the Almighty sent down: "But those who wronged among them substituted a word other than that which had been said to them."

8434 - Abu Zur'ah told us, 'Amr ibn Hammad told us, he said: Asbat claimed, from al-Suddi, from Murrah al-Hamdani, from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: They said: "Hatta samqatha azbah mazba." In Arabic, this means: "A red grain of wheat, bored, containing a black hair." That is His saying: "But those who wronged among them substituted a word other than that which had been said to them."

8435 - Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan told us, Yahya ibn Adam told us, Sufyan told us, from al-A'mash, from al-Minhal, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "Enter the gate prostrating"—he said: Bowing, through a small gate; so they began entering on their posteriors and said: "Hintah" (wheat). This is His saying: "But those who wronged among them substituted a word other than that which had been said to them." It was narrated from 'Ata', Mujahid, 'Ikrimah, Qatadah, al-Dahhak, al-Rabi' ibn Anas, and Yahya ibn Rafi' something similar to that.

His saying, the Almighty: "So We sent upon them a punishment (Rijz)."

8436 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj told us, Waki' told us, Sufyan told us, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Ibrahim ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, from Sa'd ibn Malik, Usamah ibn Zayd, and Khuzaymah ibn Thabit, they said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The plague is a 'Rijz' (punishment), a torment with which a people before you were punished."
