8484 - It was mentioned from Abu Ma'shar, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi, who said: They were tested with prosperity, but they did not remain patient. He said: "And We divided them into nations in the earth; some of them are righteous, and some of them are otherwise. And We tested them with good and evil, that they might return."

8486 - My father told us, Abu Hudhayfah told us, Shibl told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "And We tested them with good," he said: Prosperity and well-being.

8486 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Minjab ibn Bishr told us, from Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And evil," he said: Affliction and punishment.
8487 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj told us, Ibn Fudayl told us, from Ash'ath, from al-Hasan regarding "that they might return," he said: That they might repent.

8488 - Yahya ibn 'Abdak al-Qazwini told us, al-Muqri told us, Sa'id—meaning Ibn Abi Ayyub—told us, Bashir ibn Abi 'Amr al-Khawlani told me, from al-Walid ibn Qays, from Ibn Sa'id al-Khudri regarding this verse: "Then there came after them successors," he said: The successors (come) after sixty years.
8489 - Muhammad ibn Yahya told us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid al-Narsi informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray', from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding: "Then there came after them successors," he said: Yes, by Allah, evil successors.
8490 - Ahmad ibn Sinan told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi told us, from Sufyan, from Ibrahim ibn al-Muhajir, from Mujahid regarding: "Then there came after them successors," he said: This nation.
8491 - Abu Bakr ibn Abi Musa told us, Yahya al-Himmani told us, Sharik told us, from Ibrahim ibn Muhajir, from Mujahid regarding: "Then there came after them successors," he said: They are this nation, they follow one another on the paths just as cattle follow one another; they do not fear the One who is in heaven, and they do not feel shame before those who are on earth.
