His saying, the Almighty: "With strength."
8525 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd reported to me in what he wrote to me, my father told me, my uncle al-Husayn told me, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Take what We have given you with strength," he says: Working by the Book.
8526 - My father told us, 'Ubayd Allah ibn Musa told us, Abu Ja'far told us, from al-Rabi', "Take what We have given you with strength," he said: With obedience.
8527 - Muhammad ibn Yahya told us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid told us, Yazid ibn Zuray', from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Take what We have given you with strength," he said: With diligence.
His saying, the Almighty: "And remember what is in it, that you may become righteous."
8528 - And by the same chain from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "And remember what is in it, that you may become righteous," [He means] by a mountain that Allah uprooted from its base, then placed it above their heads, then said: "You shall surely accept my command, or else I will throw it upon you."
His saying, the Almighty: "And when your Lord took from the children of Adam, from their loins, their descendants."
Yunis ibn 'Abd Allah al-A'la reported to us by way of reading, Ibn Wahb informed us that Malik informed him, from Zayd ibn Abi Unaysah, that 'Abd al-Hamid ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn al-Khattab informed him, from Muslim ibn Yasar al-Juhani, that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab was asked about this verse: "And when your Lord took from the children of Adam, from their loins, their descendants," up to His saying: "Indeed, we were of this unaware." 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, being asked about it, and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Allah created Adam, then He wiped his back with His right hand and extracted from it a progeny. He said: 'I created these for Paradise, and they will perform the deeds of the people of Paradise.' Then He wiped his back and extracted from it a progeny. He said: 'I created these for the Fire, and they will perform the deeds of the people of the Fire.'" A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, then what is the purpose of deeds?" The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "When Allah creates the servant for Paradise, He employs him in the deeds of the people of Paradise until he dies performing an act from the deeds of the people of Paradise, so He enters him into Paradise thereby; and when He creates the servant for the Fire, He employs him in the deeds of the people of the Fire until he dies performing an act from the deeds of the people of the Fire, so He enters him into the Fire thereby."
