that He makes her a dog, so she became a dog. Thus, two supplications were exhausted. Her children came and said: "We have no stability with this; our mother has become a dog, and people are shaming us because of her." So he prayed to Allah to return her to the state she was in, and he prayed to Allah, and she returned as she was. Thus, the three supplications were exhausted. She was named al-Basus.

8550 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan told us, al-Walid told us, Sa'id told us, from Qatadah, who said: Ka'b said regarding "We gave Our signs": He used to know the Greatest Name of Allah, which, if one is called upon by it, He answers.

His statement, the Exalted: "but he detached himself from them."

8551 - al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah mentioned to us, Hajjaj told us, from Ibn Jurayj, regarding "We gave Our signs, but he detached himself from them," Ibn Jurayj said: 'Abdullah ibn Kathir informed me that he heard Mujahid saying: I heard Ibn 'Abbas saying: Bal'am ibn Ba'ur is from the Children of Israel. Regarding "but he detached himself from them," he said: The knowledge was stripped from him.

8552 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father told me, my paternal uncle al-Hasan told me, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas: Regarding His statement, "And recite to them the news of him to whom We gave Our signs, but he detached himself from them," he is a man called Bal'am from the people of Yemen; Allah gave him His signs, but he abandoned them.

8553 - My father narrated to us, 'Abdullah ibn Abi Ziyad told us, Sayyar told us, Ja'far ibn Salamah told us, Malik ibn Dinar told us: The Prophet of Allah, Moses, sent Bal'am, who was one whose supplication was answered, and he would lead them during times of hardship. He was among the scholars of the Children of Israel. He sent him to the King of Midian to call him to Allah. He [the King] bribed him and gave him, so he followed his religion and abandoned the religion of Moses. Then this verse was revealed: "And recite to them the news of him to whom We gave Our signs, but he detached himself from them" until His saying: "of the straying ones."

8554 - Yahya ibn 'Abduk al-Qazwini narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Sa'id ibn Sabiq told us, 'Amr ibn Abi Qays told us, from Simak, from 'Ikrimah, regarding His statement: "to whom We gave Our signs, but he detached himself from them, so Satan pursued him." He said: They are from the Jews, the Christians, and the Hanifs, from those whom Allah gave the truth but he abandoned it. He said: Allah gave him His signs and His Book, but he detached himself from them, so He made him like the dog.

His statement, the Exalted: "so Satan pursued him, and he became of the straying ones."

[The First Aspect]
