8582 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd ibn 'Atiyyah al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle al-Husayn narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His statement: "And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them," he said: Among His names are al-'Aziz (the Almighty) and al-Jabbar (the Compeller), and all of Allah's names are beautiful.

His statement, the Exalted: "And leave those who deviate in His names"

8583 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His statement: "those who deviate in His names," [he said]: Denial.

8584 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle al-Husayn narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His statement: "And leave those who deviate in His names," he said: Deviation (ilhad), [is that] the deviators called upon al-Lat and al-'Uzza [by incorporating them] into the names of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.

8585 - Al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazyad informed us by reading to him, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb ibn Shabur informed me, 'Uthman ibn 'Ata' informed me, from his father: As for "they deviate in Our signs," he said: Deviation is (al-mudahah) imitation (or contradiction).

8586 - Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-A'la narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Thawr told us, from Ma'mar, from Qatadah regarding His statement: "deviate," he said: They associate partners.

8587 - Abu 'Amir Sa'id ibn 'Amr ibn Sa'id al-Himsi al-Sakuni narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn al-'Ala al-Zubaydi told us, Abu 'Abd al-Malik 'Abd al-Wahid ibn Maysarah al-Qurashi al-Zaytuni told us, Mubashshir ibn 'Ubayd al-Qurashi narrated to me, he said: Al-A'mash said: They (yalhadun) deviate (by pronouncing it with a damma/fatha on the ya and ha, from al-lahd - the grave/inclination). He said: And I asked him about its interpretation, and he said: They introduce into it that which does not belong to it.

His statement, the Exalted: "And among those We created is a community that guides by the truth and by it they act with justice"

8588 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-A'la al-San'ani told us, Muhammad ibn Thawr told us, from Ma'mar, from Qatadah regarding His statement: "And among those We created is a community that guides by the truth and by it they act with justice," he said: Meaning this community; they guide by the truth and by it they act with justice.

8589 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi Hammad told us, Mihran told us, from Abu Ja'far, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas regarding His statement: "And among those We created is a community that guides by the truth and by it they act with justice," he said: The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "There will be a group from my community who will remain upon the truth until 'Isa ibn Maryam descends, when he descends."
