His statement, the Exalted: "Whomever Allah leads astray, there is no guide for him."

8595 - 'Amr al-Awdi narrated to us, Waki' told us, from Sufyan, from Khalid al-Hadhdha', from 'Abd al-A'la, from 'Abd Allah ibn al-Harith, that 'Umar delivered a sermon at al-Jabiyah. He praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: "Whomever Allah guides, there is no one to lead him astray, and whomever He leads astray, there is no guide for him." A priest who was sitting in front of him said a word in Persian: "barkast, barkast" (it is wrong, it is wrong), and he shook his garment from his chest. 'Umar returned and gave the sermon [again], and the priest said the same, until it was the third time. A translator was translating for 'Umar what he was saying in Arabic, so 'Umar said: "What is he saying?" He replied: "He claims that Allah does not lead anyone astray." 'Umar said: "You have lied, O enemy of Allah. Rather, Allah created you and He will cast you into the Fire if He wills. Were it not for [my] respect for the covenant, I would have struck off your head." He said: So the people dispersed and they did not differ regarding the decree (al-Qadar).

[His statement, the Exalted: "And leave them"]

8596 - Abu Bakr ibn Abi Musa al-Ansari narrated to us, Harun ibn Hatim told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad told us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik, regarding His statement: "And leave them," meaning: leave them alone.

8597 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith told us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding "in their transgression," he said: in their disbelief. A similar report was narrated from al-Suddi.

[The second interpretation]

8598 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam told us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi told us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah, regarding His statement: "in their transgression," meaning: in their misguidance. A similar report was narrated from Qatadah and al-Rabi' ibn Anas.

His statement, the Exalted: "Wandering blindly"

[The first interpretation]

8599 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith told us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His statement: "wandering blindly," he said: they fluctuate in their disbelief.
